I need to replace the factory hitch on my 04 Chevy, 2500HD, 4 X 4, short box, factory step bumper (not the 10" model) with one that has a 12,000# to 15,000# weight carrying capability. Checking with local dealers and the internet I have found:
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Hidden Hitch 81586

Reese/Draw-Tite Titan 45016

Putnam XDR 25182

I have primarily used Draw-Tite hitches in the past but have no experience with the Hidden Hitch or Putnam. I would appreciate any comments or recommendation from those of you who have used these Class V hitches.

Additionally are there any other Class V hitches available for my application? :)

I replaced my failed factory hitch with the Putnam XDR class 5. Has held up very, very well with only 8 months of use (the factory only lasted 5 months). If you do go with the Reese Titan, remember that the pin box is 2 1/2 inches and unless you buy all the draw bars at 2 1/2 inches you must use an adapter to get the box size down to 2". All my equipment was 2", and I did not want to be fooling with the adapter all the time either. My opinion, go with the Putnam and don't look back. Since you are in AK I'm not sure about pricing because of shipping, but southwestwheel has the Putnam for about $150.

I have heard good reports about both the Putnam XDR and the Titan. I have the Titan V and it is a massive piece of iron. The reducer sleeve is really not a big deal unless you hitch and unhitch frequently. In that case you might be better off with the Putnam and its 2" receiver. I don’t know about the Putnam, but the Titan has a horizontal plate welded to it to which you can bolt a bracket kit to hold the 7-pin plug, which needs to be replaced when you lose the stock hitch. Not a big deal, but sometimes little things make a difference.

I have the Putnam XDR. I pull my 10k boat everywhere. Great hitch, easy to install.
