Anyone have any reccomendations for a cheap portable GPS?? TomTom or whatnot??

How cheap can you get them for? I mainly need it for the speedometer function because my old beetle doesnt have a speedometer, and I think a GPS would be cool to have offroad.

Can you get them for around 100 dollars?

Reports I've read say Garmin has the best (most efficient) mapping software. You can probably get a nice 200 series Garmin Nuvi for under $200. Lots of info at http://www.gpsmagazine.com . I have a Garmin 76CSx handheld that does off-road mapping also, but you won't find it for under $200.

X2 Garmin all the way, search ebay. I have an old GARMIN 12 handheld I would part with cheap. But it's pretty basic, it does have speed shown, but the display is small.

You're best bet for a off-roading gps would be to go for a aviator gps system mucho $$$ but extremely accurate. I don't know if any of the worthwhile ones are under a hundred bucks, maybe flea-bay?

Ben I can't believe that there won't be a lux nav tnr in your beetle. I'm disappointed :( hahaha

Ben, I have an older 2002 model I'll sell you cheap.

I used it in my truck for a long time before I got EFI to recalibrate the speedo to know my speed.

It still is in my truck and I find myself looking at it for checking my speed instead of the real corrected speedo.
