i am currently running royalpurple 15-w40 oil and am wondering what the benifit to running the 5-w40 is...im in north florida where the temps dont dip below freezin that much...:confuzeld thanks

If the two products have the same API rating, then you probably wouldn't see much advantage where you are.

Two answers here. Syn oils will take heat and cold better then conventional oils. They resist thermal break down better. They are about 9% slipperier then conventional oil. Who's ever oils you like they should provide you with a booklet about there oils ( Product books) I have several ones that are current and use them as sitting reading.:D Before I started using Syn oils I collected about 1 1/2" binder full of papers and info from Mobil and SAE. I still think of the gent that I talked to, he forwarded me more info that I hadn't thought of!

I live in Fairbanks Alaska wher temps get to 50 below, and the syn oil seems to do better.

According to Amsoil's web site, 5W-40 is only recommended (i.e., necessary) for '07 and newer diesels. 15W-40 is recommended for pre-'07 diesel engines.

strykermom what viscosity oil do you use up there...i would the thinner the better .
