: Going Going .......
jjgmc 03-06-2005, 09:10 PM Well I think my flywheel is on it's way out. I am getting a growling noise from the bellhousing does it when you push the clutch in a little but when you push it all the way down it goes away. The truck drives fine and the clutch does not slip. Will the dealer hassle me as far as the warrenty? I know the flywheel is coverted for 100,000. I have removed the juice as well:)
precision37 03-07-2005, 07:06 AM They should'nt, take it in and get it done. You'll have a nice quiet truck again.
tbalz 03-07-2005, 08:30 AM My Flywheel just gave up the ghost as well. Totally stock LLY. 10,000 miles. Truck was built April of '04. Only towed jet skis and snowmobiles.
Str8 Eight 03-07-2005, 03:55 PM How noticable it the growling noise? Do you notice the noise any other time when you are driving? Trying to tell if I'm having trouble or not. Thanks
jjgmc 03-07-2005, 06:37 PM You can definitly tell it's there. It only does when you start to push the clutch in. If you do not touch it at all there is no noise. The truck drives fine as well. I will be taking it in this Wednesday I will keep everyone posted
nobull1 03-07-2005, 09:33 PM How noticable it the growling noise? Do you notice the noise any other time when you are driving? Trying to tell if I'm having trouble or not. ThanksMy first one went for a little over two years. In the last couple of months of use it was acting just like jjgmc's. In August they replaced with the 2nd latest flywheel. Last month it started to make a rattle[no growl] at all times clutch in or out at idle. In the time between ordering the new flywheel and the installation the noise "seemed" to decrease. When they replaced it they said it had turned and almost had to take the torch to get it off. Now this one makes the same noise as the last one but nowhere near as much, after only a month. I am hoping that it doesn't get worse or maybe just a quirk of the new type:rolleyes: but you know.So the two times mine went bad it was different symptoms but the same problem. I think in the end it will be replaced by Mac's but I'm not letting GM off the hook for awhile as it is their problem to resolve. If you have a good dealer he should order the parts and call you when in. That way you should only be down for a day.

First, thanks for the info. The noise that I am hearing is mainly when the truck is cold and is not as loud as what some people say before theirs went out. Pushing the clutch in or out does not change the noise when the truck is out of gear. However at the point of engagement you can hear something, the noise is more of a repeated sh sound. Lately I have noticed the sound when decelerating at around 1500 rpms. If this is what you or anyone else experienced please let me know.
nobull1 03-07-2005, 10:29 PM "Almost" for sure that flywheel is on it's way out. When my second one first started it was hard to tell for sure it was the flywheel. But it didn't take very long and it became louder, and then was obvious. Don't know about the 1500 rpm's thing though, but nothing would surprise me. A dealer that has seen a few dual mass problems will know right away.
tbalz 03-09-2005, 08:16 AM Dropped mine off today, and told him "good luck little buddy", hope they treat him well
The serice writer didnt know you could get a ZF6 in a 2500HD...I am a little worried
1BADDMAX 03-09-2005, 08:57 AM I'm on my original flywheel at 100200 miles. I already looked up the price for the flywheel and I can get it for $287 and change( gmpartsdirect.com). I guess I'm going to bite the bullet and buy one and keep it handy. I must have got one made on a Wednesday!!!
Crawler Hauler 03-09-2005, 10:15 AM Theres no doubt that's what it is. I let mine go for a while and then found out there was a national backorder on the bolts to attach it to the crank, had to wait another 5 weeks. Tech said the thing was ready to bust completely loose and really cause dammage. Get it in now, I forgot how nice my truck was to drive until I had it done. The dealer can't argue about it being covered under the motor warranty, it's right there in the owners manual. $100 deductible after 36K.
tbalz 03-10-2005, 11:13 AM Picked up Maximus this morning. Feels like a new truck again. No more nasty noise coming from the flywheel. They also fixed my sqeek coming from the power steeering pump. They brack needed to be realigned. A few guys said they had theirs replaced, but I think that they were just installed wrong during assembly
jjgmc 03-12-2005, 08:15 PM Well I got the truck back today and all is well. They installed a new slave cylinder as well. Truck shifts better than new. :ro)
