Noticed about 80-100kms more per tank, and more power. If i'm gonna be paying $3.50 + per gallon I want the premuim fuel, not winter diesel. Its March allready so I'm switching to No.1 fuel (summer) instead of No.2 (winter). Ask your gas bar if they switched back to No.1 diesel yet....

The #1 and #2 thing just confuses the hell out of me. When I refer to #1 diesel, I mean kerosene--designed for cold weather because it has less lubricity to gel. It's crappier fuel because it has less lubrication and fewer BTU's per unit of volume.

When I refer to #2, I mean what we generally think of as straight diesel. I've noticed a lot of guys on here in different regions of the world calling #1 what I cal #2 and vice versa. Who's right and who's wrong? I'm not sure. I know how we do it in Montana, so hopefully I never have to travel out of the state! :)

i agree with you coyotekid. and according to the manual, it states that we use #2 all year long unless it is very cold where you are and go to the #1 winter fuel. we'll see if anyone else answers the same or clears things up fo us.

#2 diesel is the good stuff, #1 diesel is like kerosene or home heating oil. Trust me on this one, I own a truckstop. While traveling I've seen some stations incorrectly refer to #2 as #1 fuel. I can't really tell you why.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif But I can tell you from first hand experience all the big oil companies, Cenex, Conoco, Exxon, Sinclair, Flying J, Pilot, etc. all refer to the good stuff as #2.
That's just the way it is! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rules.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/exactly.gif

Pretty sure here in America #1 is kerosene

#2 is home heating oil and Diesel for our truck engine's

#3 is a thicker fluid than #2, and so on

Think the gunk left at the bottom of the oil tanker is like #9 fuel

Just another post to chime in that #2 is regular (summer) diesel. Colder climate stations generally blend their #2 diesel with some #1 fuel to help prevent gelling, but it comes at the cost of a little less power and economy.

Living in mid-Michigan, all our diesel is blended in the winter, but I recently started filling with BP Premier Diesel and the truck responds more like summertime.

#1 is Kerosine base with additives
#2 is street diesel
All the rest is #2 with red dye, ei home heating oil and off road diesel (no road tax).

Ok i had my numbers crossed http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/redface.gif....

"winterized diesel", It can be either additized with an additive package of which the principal ingredient is a cold flow improver, or it can be a No.1/No 2 dieselblend (usually 30%No 1 (Kero)70% No. 2) or it can be a blend with additive. The higher the No. 1 percentage, the better the fuel will flow in extreme cold situations. The downside is No 1 is expensive and also the more No. 1, the less BTU content the fuel has and therefore the less power and mpg you will get. The best winter fuel in my book is an additized product without the No 1. The problem is the additive packages don't always work with all fuels as No. 2 LSD will vary depending on the crude it comes from and the additive packages will react differently with different fuels. Therefore sometimes you will need kero.

I don't want her, you can Havre! :) That's the old joke about Havre...

I'm originally from down in the southwest part of the state, but now I'm in Bozeman going to Montana State to try to gain a little knowledge, and of course, party.

I haven't put my truck on a dyno yet, but I plan to once I get the tranny built just to see where I'm at. I'll try to do a little research and get back to you. I'm sure there's something up around Great Falls, which isn't too much of a drive for either one of us.

I'll check it out and get back to ya... hit me with a PM if you don't hear back from me sooner than later because sometimes I forget stuff like this!

Who did you get to build your tranny here in Bozeman? I'm headed down to see Mike L. the end of this week for him to do mine.

The snow here is awful...it's gonna be one dry summer with lots of fires I'm afraid. I haven't been into the Park for a while, but I know it's not very good either.
