I am looking at adding gauges as I am contemplating which tuner I am going with. I have decided to do the overhead console install. My question now is for the boost gauge....
1. Electric or Manual
2. If electric sweep gauge or digital?
for the EGT,
1. Sweep or digital?
I am thinking autometer gauges. Any objections? If so why, and what makes your recommendation a better gauge for my truck?
Thanks! Ed

Manual for the boost, sweep for the EGT is my opinion. I think that's what most run. If you are ever considering a fuel rail pressure gauge, possibly Diprocal gauges from PPE might be another option. You can't go wrong with autometer's though.

What is the real difference between the two? I am not going to be building my truck into a racer. I am simply looking for more power, and ways to monitor the performance and ensure that if something is going wrong, that I have a heads up on it. I am looking at the banks ottomind, and doing turbo back exhause, and a new intake. What I am really wondering is what if anything is actually the difference between the mechanical and the manual boost? Is the mechanical slightly delayed in giving a read out? If so how much, half second, more? less? or is there some other compelling reason, other than the mechanical typically costs more? I doubt cost is the main factor as we are all thowing money into our rigs for better performance, however it might be if they are both relatively the same. Please someone with some knowledge on the pro/con of a mechanical over a manual boost let me know. I want to make an informed decision, rather than just going for what I think looks cool... thanks guys!

I'd like to know what the differences are, between mechanical and electric.
From what I can tell, the electric gauges will need some sort of processing box that will need to be mounted as well.
I don't seem to see many electric boost gauges, but I see both mechanical and electric for EGT. Which is best?

A manual gauge will use an airline usually a nylon line rated for high pressure to get the information (boost Pressure) Where an electronic will take readings from somewhere off of the motor. Where exactly I'm not entirely sure since I have never installed a gauge of this type. As far as accuracy, it's really up to who installed it. Tap location, kinks in the hose, etc. Your EGT gauge is a similar idea.

Electronic gauge takes boost readings from the MAP sensor. I have SPA combo and I love it.

Is one better than the other(mechanical vs electric)?
