Just got an 05, and they give no mileage recomendation for oil changes, just the oil life system. I haul campers and run 4000 miles a week. 50/50 split on towing and empty. I changed my Cummins every 2 weeks or 8000 miles. Also when should I get that first oil out? TIA, Karl

i asked my dealer about it and they said you can wait till the oil change light comes on or do the conventional 3-5k change. i personally go 10k between changes. i run amsoil.

it's up to you. if you go by the indicator, then you'll be around 10000 miles + or -. Some have gone as far as 15k. i do mine every 10k but i run synthetic and do mostly highway miles. i have almost 70k miles on mine now. it'll be a year old come the 28th of the month.

I'm going by the monitor. I have 49% left.

You sound like me, NCMIC. I had 69k+ miles on my truck's 1st year anniversary on Feb 5th.
rv-puller, I'd at least do a couple of oil changes early, say at around 1k & 3k miles, whenever it's practical for you to do them. Then I don't see why you couldn't use the same change interval as your Cummins. My oil analysis always comes back with plenty of life left at 8k, but I don't tow very often.
I'm curious why you switched from a Cummins to a Duramax. A good choice, if you ask me.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif
