Caa you guys shed some light on this for me!
I am considering purchasing a 01 Silverado 2500HD 4x2 150,000 miles.
Should any major flaw issues be worked out by know if there are gonna be any? I am kinda worried about the injector issue.
Anything I should inspect specifically before purchasing?
Any opinions / thoughts would be appreciated.
This is an auto.. so does it have the Allison?? are there any issues to look for with the Allison.
Thanks, I am very anxious to get my 1st diesel truck.

I have a 01 LB7. By the way I just had a new engine installed @ 216 K miles. This is what I would look for - Have injectors been changed as yet, does it use coolant, have head gaskets been changed, has the injector pump been changed, @ what intervals has the transmission had the fluid & filters changed, what has been the oil change cycle on the D-Max & is there paper to back this up? If I were you I would get an oil smpl & send in for review this will tell you quite a bit about the engine.
Good Luck I think they are a very good truck that is why I opted to install a new engine.

What was the reason for the new motor?

Gross coolant intrusion from heads leaking. That is what the Labs stated & I sent smpls to 3 of them. Oil turned to jello by the time I caught it damage was done.

ouch!!... How was your injector experience with the LB7?? What was the cause of the leaking heads?

All injectors replace under warranty. LB7 had head gasket problems, new gasket design fixed this but to find the problem can be a real pain & costly.

One thing i would also check is the idler arm mounting braket that welds to the frame. I looked at one truck that had this craked and it would of turned into a very expensive fix! If you lay down underneath on the passenger said you can get a good view of the braket

Also does anyone suggest to stay away from the LB7 all together??

Not really these get the best MPG of all the D-Maxs stock.
They may be a little short on hp but a small tune or pane works great :D

If It Does Have Injector Issues At Least Theyre Warrantied Through Gm For 200,000 Miles On 01-02 Only So That Saves $2,200

ALL LB7's ('01-'04) have the 7year/200k mile warranty (whichever occurs first)...but on an '01, if the warranty hasn't run out yet, then it would be *darn close*...I've been eying the rock bottom prices on some Dmax's as well, but the injector issues on the LB7s is a *tad* disheartening...the way I look at it, the price of the truck has to be low enough for you to assume the risk of a possible injector replacement.
