Hey all, getting on the freeway today (very mildly) with the 120 TTS tune and BAAM! Water/oil evrywhere and the motor seized. Will not spin over. Busted block driver side.

I do have the extended 100k warr. Is there anyone out there that knows a good place to take it to,preferably in the Sacramento, CA area?

PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP!

If I get stuck with the bill, what is the flat rate to R&R the engine on a 4 wd chassis? Any other ideas?

Thanks!

labor to r&r is in the 25-30 hour range. Total bill for a new engine installed will be in the 13k range.

Why would it just seize? oh.....nvm, I see your sig now....

First, change it back to stock tune before it goes anywhere. Get rid of all of your power adders. Make it look as stock as possible.

Your engine is covered to 100,000 miles/5 years.

I've had good luck with Performance Chevy off Madison Avenue ... went to them on recommendation as well.

 Looking at your tagline, I suspect you may find it difficult to explain why you have a hole here and there in your intake. ... be interested in knowing how it comes out.

I'd be surprised if you get anything out of warranty on that type of a situation.:( ... but we'll keep you in our thoughts!

what do you mean by that?? the TTS or the H2o??

The TTS 120 is unlikely to cause it I would think. If your water meth screwed up, and you injested a slug of water (should only take about a tablespoon to do it) that could certainly bend a rod.

i think we should find out if water was even used at the time before blaming it, could be lots of things, we need a breakdown of events before accusing

Something had to let go big to window the block, We have numerous trucks running ~800 FWHP and no failures like that. Any thing wierd before it happened at all? A stuck injector wouldnt even do that unless it burnt through the piston or something. Could have dropped a valve too I suppose... Would like to see the insides of that thing

So what's the status on the engine?

Hey all -

Just to clarify, I was merging on with traffic on the freeway with no h2o/meth.

Well GMC is covering it under the 100k mile GMC waurantee. They claim it to have had a "stuck" injector leaning to detonation thus breaking the piston skirt and all to hell from there. A brand new long block has been shipped, without a new turbo, and should be back on the road by next Tues.

We'll see what happens to this but when I went by the dealership today, they have my old ECM (correct name?) sitting next to a new one. Hmm. Also the way they are R&R-ing the engine is to completely remove the grill, lights, cooler, radiator, ect to slide it out from the front.

Anyway, keep your and my fingers crossed all goes well and give my $100 deductable and drive into the sunset right back home and perform some "downloading"!

Thanks for all of your input and help. Not sure how to chalk this one up except a fluke. Never heard of catostrophic events like this in the ole Dmax.

Glad to hear the dealer is stepping up to resolve the problem. By the way, which GMC dealership are you using???

The long block is pretty large, and sits pretty far back into the engine bay, and heavy as hell, I would feel better not raising it any higher than I had to as well. and in all honesty, it is MUCH easier to remove the turbo and exhaust tubes behind engine with the engine sitting on the floor, which means pulling forward.

I'll fully dress the engine before I swing it in, cuz doing it once it is inside is WAY more time consuming. leaving the thermostat tower off till I get things in place.

and are you sure it is the ECM and not the TCM? or both sitting side by side? they sit right next to each other in the truck, in different mountings, and to the unknowing could be mistaken for each other. then there is the FICM. All of which need to be removed to pull the engine.

The long block comes sealed, new injectors installed, valve covers on, and a few other things already in place, enjoy the new engine.

Good luck.
Kevin

Be interesting to get an analizes of the failure.

Yes he got it back and no he wasn't running the ex when it blew. failure was caused by an INJECTOR as stated earlier. he was just putting around when it quit.

Didn't want to hear that....

Hopefully an isolated thing.

ya i feel for you one of our full size trucks with a 15 liter CAT C-15 engine in it blew the #6 piston to 4 pieces and blew out both sides of the block. I could reach my hand right threw. The problem is that the intake valves had hit the piston and caused it to blow apart. Worst part about it is that it had just been rebuilt less than 20000 miles ago.
