I have seen alot of posts regarding this lift and everyone who owns one seems to be quite happy with it, good luck and let us know which lift you decide on, Josh

I am happy with it have not had any problems.

The adavantage with the Tuff country is it is 6" without cranking the torsion bars

KEVINL how is the ride (on and off road), durability, and quality in general of the lift and have you had any problems with it?

It rides good I just have the tuff country shocks for now so I'm sure with Bilsteins it would ride awesome. It rides much better than before the lift

The lift has been flawless all the pieces are powdercoated and everything seems to be built strong. I have the one piece lower subframe and it fit like a glove.

There has been no problems with it whatsoever I have had it 1.5 yrs and around 30,000 miles

Well that sounds pretty nice to me. I How much did it cost ya? and do you know if its a spindle lift?

KEVINL

It is a spindle lift. It was about $1450 IIRC

Wow thats a great price. I might be goin with that lift. Do you know if its possible to add a dual shock kit later.

KEVINL

I dont think tuff country offers a dual shock kit but you could use a cognito or another kit All you are doing is changing the Upper controll arm and adding a hoop it wouldn't effect anything

Great kit, I installed one on my bro-in-laws 2003 crewcab. Much easier install than my procomp was by far. I have a bunch of installation photos if you want to reference them for doing your install...http://community.webshots.com/user/rick98z

i was looking at the pro comp 6inch lift and i noticed if you want to use 4hi above 25mph u have to change the front driveshaft. does the tuff country lift have a similar issue?

I believe most lifts fall into this category, you can a double cardin replacement shaft for 450 to alleviate this if you use 4hi above 25 mph.

With my tuff country I have gone 101Mph in 4wd it is not as smooth as stock but it is not bad

I really dont want to have to do that but i will run 4 hi at speeds more than 25 mph. Is this really something that needs to be done. I dont see too many people doin that.

I think it is truck and lift kit dependent some vibrate more then others and vibration is not just annoying it can damage other components, you could get your lift and try it out if its not to bad dont get the drive shaft, if you think its excessive wait tilll you can afford or ready and then purchase the driveshaft.

The driveshaft replacement is only needed if you have an autotrac transfer-case. I put one on mine with my procomp lift but didn't use one with my brother-in-laws tuff country install since he didn't have autotrac.

What is autotrac and how do i tell if i have it

Autotrac is the push button 4-wheel drive
Non-autotrac is the manual selecter on the floor

so i'm assuming at this point if you have autotrac you really need the need driveshaft if you plan to go over 25 mph in 4hi. i noticed however that procomp makes note of this but tuff country and other companies do not. so can you use the same shaft offered by procomp or does it even matter what brand you use? and if the other companies don't specify the need for it, then is it possible those kits don't require it or for that matter what releases them of liabilty if the stock shaft fails? if you can see my point. i really rather not spend and extra 3 to 4 hundred on a part that might not be necessary. but if it is required, i'd rather be safe than sorry.

another note, both pro comp and tuff country can be found relatively cheap on ebay. i can't post links b/c they are not vendors on here and i can't support them. now, i have heard the tuff country is easier to install than pro comp, and i have also heard from a local dealer that they do not prefer pro comp, however, most ppl on here seem to like them. i'm pretty sure they are both 6 inch lifts without using the torsion bars and they are both blocks and add-a-leafs in the rear so they are relativelty the same in most aspects. which brings me back to the need for the driveshaft.... if pro comp requires it and tuff country doesn't need it, my decision is made......

not neccesarily

no Duramax has autotrac if you have the auto 4wd button you have autotrac

I thought that tuff countrys were the spindle lift style lift and procomps are the drop bracket style lift.

ok, so only the auto 4wd is autotrac, not the push button 4wd?

either way, on the pro comp website it says that a new front driveshaft is recommended for trucks with the pushbutton 4wd.

i guess when i go to buy my lift i'm just going to call pro comp and tuff country and find out

That does not make any sense there is no diffrence whether it is push button or floor shift they are both part time systems. It is just whether you are shifting the transfer by hand or a motor is doing it for you

Auto trac transfer cases do not come on duramax's period

ok, i understand that. the question is whether or not the other lifts require a new driveshaft. i already know pro comp suggests it, whether or not its necessary is a different question

Ok so i take it the driveshaft is really not that necessary.

Like I said before some trucks vibrate and some do not, it is lift and truck and also set up dependant, and other then cold weather climates there is probably a large contingent of people with lifted trucks that have never driven at highway speeds in their lifted trucks in 4 hi to know that they even need the drive shaft, so yes to answer your question you may never need this drive shaft, or you may wish you had and drop 450 for a double cardin after the fact, get a lift try it out, if you feel you need it order one after the fact. good luck, Josh

I dont think so it has not been a problem up to 100Mph I never am usually in 4wd high at speed unless I am at the track

Ya ill probably just get my lift and decide about the driveshaft later, its not a huge deal since im not in 4hi all the time.

I have a TC 6" lift and have never had any problems with it. I bought it used so I don't know if it has a different driveshaft or not, but I have drivin in 4hi up to 50MPH and havn't had any vibration.

yea, i'll probably get the lift and decide later. i live in south florida and is always poors rain in the afternoon and ppl don't know how to drive in the rain so i usually pass them doing 70 or 80 on the highway in 4hi on those rainy days. thats the only time i use 4hi unless i slip at the boat ramp. thanks
