: Anyone change the Kubota backhoe controls?
Just purchased a Kubota L4400. Not crazy about the JD controls. Love to change them to Cat style. I assume I can just change the connections at the valve?
Anyone do this and can it be done?
Dmax Tim 08-25-2008, 08:18 AM I use only deere style, what's different w/ the cat controls?
one I really hate now is ford 4 stick, and that's what I learned on 35 years ago.
one problem w/ switching hoses on valves is some of the valves have regen built in. I guess if it doesn't work switch it back.

Cat has "excavator" type controls meaning boom and buckect curl is in your right hand, and left hand is swing and stick. JD is boom/swing for right and stick and curl in left. In the construction world we have both. some machines are designed to have both, you just flip a valve.

Hey now, I have 2 of the 723 ford hoe's now. Both 14' with the goofy 4 stick controls, they dig strong. Actually, too strong for the size tractor...
Duromax04 09-04-2008, 01:34 AM That Kubota machine should be able to switch to Cat controls with a flip of a a valve. I used a one of those last year, and it ran like a Cat when I got it, so you should not have to change the hoses at all, should be more simple than that.

I just had a lot of trouble moving wrong stick and I was using a guy's old hoe to dig out along his basement wall. atleast I didn't cave the wall in but it took forever :D
latigo1 09-24-2008, 05:11 PM I am sure it can too. I have the l4400 also but not the backhoe, it is a sweet machine for a full manual compact. I have used one with the hoe and it was configured like a Cat. I would call a local dealership and ask service, most of those guys are liberal with info.

ChadYou could do that or it should be just a lever valve either in the cab (bobcats were down by your feet on the counsel) or somewhere by your Hydrolic valve assembly.
tinypeckerwood 10-17-2008, 05:37 PM This may sound a little mean, but I have to say it because I am a heavy equipment operator. But a real operator can run anything. You will get used to it no matter how it is set up. I hate when we get a new whinney operator that says " I can only run BLAH BLAH controls. That will usually get you sent back to the hall in a hurry. You tend to learn fast when your job is on the line. But if it is your personel machine, by all means change it to how you like. I can go back and forth and get my rythem in a few minutes now.

try working at a dealership and people show up and try to run the bobcat's with John deer controls from the factory, they jump out like whining bitches wanting there Cat controls

I have heard all the whining I can stand about that at work too. But, I am lucky enough that we already own the equipment. We don't have to satisfy a customer for a sale. I tell them to figure it out or go home. I can always call the hall for another "seat cover"
