: Pciking up Duramax tomorrow
RobertM 03-05-2005, 08:13 PM I am goining the club.
I test drove my new truck today. Will be my first diesel. I am an RV'er and have made the leap from 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500HD LT CC SB 6.0 to 2005 GMC Sierra Extended Cab 2500HD LT LB Duramax/Allyison combo.
I will have to become used to the sounds as I have always paid close attention to my vehicles and thier engine sounds and of course for a previous gas jockey the sounds coming from the Duramax if they occured in a 6.0 we would be putting her down http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif.
Let me know what to look for and things to avoid so that I give this great combo the best future possible.
Also I just took delivery of my new travel trailer. How long should I wait (miles wise) before I make my first trip. I put about 150-250 a week on and hope to take short shoke down trip in about 3 weeks. Should have 450-600 miles for sure by then.
What kind of mileage can I expect initially and after break in which I suspect is about a year away.
Thanks
Bob
michael nelson 03-05-2005, 08:22 PM hey guys-we should start a 2005 lly forum!?????they seem to be comin in more often!???admins.....over.........
Thunderhead7 03-05-2005, 08:32 PM Welcome to the Duramax club, so far I'm getting 16.2 MPG with only 1,750 miles on mine. Enjoy your new truck.
Sorry guys corrected to 16.2 Highway and city - Ouch:lol:
aka108 03-05-2005, 08:33 PM typoYou are really going to enjoy the new vehicle. Check tire pressures and all fluid levels as soon as possible. 500 varied speed miles should get you ready for your tow. I get in the 18 mpg on highway with 2000 lb load, no tow and traveling 70 to 75 mph. In town 16 mpg. Have 10,000 miles on it and, if mpg has improved over initial mpg it isn't by very much. Read around this forum and you will observe most problems described are with vehicles that have had some mods made to them in effort to enhance power and performance. My recommendation is to leave it stock. You'll find this forum to be informative and enjoyable. Welcome Aboard.
michael nelson 03-05-2005, 08:52 PM TH:did you mean 16.2mpg?Iam getting 18.6 mpg average city and hiway???...over....
RobertM 03-05-2005, 09:00 PM What is lly mean?
Also glad to hear that most of the problems are from those using programs to enhance preformance and not the stock configuaration. Could cause me to start second quessing my choice. Especially reading the one on Allyson transmission problems. Limping home etc. These guys must be really putting a load on the units.
All I have heard previously about the Duramax and Allyson was praise. Here sounds much more negative.
Said it would be dumbhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/help.gif
Thanks

1999Cobra 03-05-2005, 10:27 PM Welcome to the Duramax club, so far I'm getting 6.2 MPG with only 1,750 miles on mine. Enjoy your new truck.
GET OUT - 6.2 huh ?
JJs DuMax 03-06-2005, 08:21 PM RobertM,
The overwhelming majority of LLY owners are posting positive experiences with their trucks. Yea, you tend to hear more of the problems than the positive experiences but rest assured your truck is one fine machine.
Now as for performance enhancements, standby dude! ):h JJ :)

garyk211 03-06-2005, 10:05 PM Who is this dipsh*t sam ryan???????
duramaximizer 03-07-2005, 01:21 AM anyway bob the only thing they are refering to is the motor option for the duramax the older motor 2001 - 2004.5 are LB7 and the newer one's 2004.5 + are called LLY by gm and are know on the forum sometimes as lillies anyway nice truck and anyone on here having problems is because they start adding what are know as chips/ tuners/ programers that plug into your trucks computer and give you more horsepower but also is harder on your motor and transmission creating more problems. if you can afford the habit (it will become one if you start) go for it. if you can't afford it your transmission and motor will last a long time. stay away from guys like JJ and mcrat as they will have your truck singing with horsepower if you listen to them. ):h ):h
aka108 03-07-2005, 10:09 AM No, I wasn't kidding about leaving it stock. Hell, the damn thing is a truck. That's all. Better vehicles out there if you want to go racing. Save yourself some bucks and a lot of troubles by leaving her the way she came.

True, (speaking as a "retired" circle track racer) but it sure is cool to have even a "mild" 7000 LB truck laying rubber as the Allison shifts into second gear...
