So I tried out my handy dandy new OBD-2 scanner I bought last week from obd-2.com (which is slicker than, well, it's slick) looking for the injector balancing rates, and I came across the Engine Oil Level sensor. So I enabled it and it said LOW. It's not low according to the dipstick (it says Full) and I just changed it 500miles ago putting in the usual 11qts (I have an Oilguard bypass setup).

Can anyone tell me if this is normal or what the story is with this? My concern is that if I were to ever have internal engine problems and took it to the dealer, the dealer would come back with I was not running enough oil or some crap.

Btw, my injector balance rates in neutral were:

#1: -1.7
#2: 0.3
#3: 0.9
#4: -2.0
#5: -1.4
#6: 0.0
#7: 0.3
#8: 0.6

Is this good? I was looking for info, about the only thing I found was anything in +-4.0 seemed to be ok and the target is 0.0.

Thanks,
Tim

I just had the same problem with my on board computer system. I checked the oil and it was fine. Drove it a week and it said it again. Checked it and found it normal. I added a qt just to shut it up. No problems since. Dont know why its doing that

lovethesmellofdieles, I just received my OBD-2 scanner software last week also. Also got the same reading for low oil. Checked my oil level via the dipstick and it was fine. I'll just ignore the software reading. Your balance rates look good, mine were about that also. It's a nice piece of software, reads lots of items.

Thanks guys for checking the oil level sensor, I guess I am not alone then, so I won't worry about it I guess.

mightyvh - I bought the 3-combo version w/o CAN support, the $162 one. I figure it was worth the extra $40 to have support for Furd and Chrysler just in case... The $120 GM version is all you need though, and a laptop PC w/ a working serial port of course.

I know nothing about this scanner or the oil sensor, but is it possible that the signal for the oil sensor is inverted? In other words, a signal present would mean 'oil ok'. This makes more sense to me because then if anything happened to the sensor, like if it broke off or a wire broke, then it would indicate a problem with the oil.

Just a thought.
