While on the way to Az. SES light comes on . Have it read, dealer tells me I need a new heating element for the air intake. Ok buy one ,install it, day & a half later, light on again. Same code, clear it, stays off for a day, back on. Now truck runs fine & the code only seems to come on when in lower temps, called a friend & he thinks there is a relay somwhere in this air heater circuit, that may be cutting out, but I cant find it. Anyone else had this problem ?
:help:

Mine has been doing the same thing. I think that it is the relay for the glow plugs and intake heater (my heater checks out OK). Covered under the emissions warranty. Otherwise, I think I read it is about $100.

So where is this relay ? Has yours been fixed? I doubt the warranty lasts 419K LOL.

Its more likely the relay then the heater itself.

Looking from the front of the truck, it is at the back of the engine at about 2 o'clock. It has several heavy wires running to it. I believe that one is red, and another is blue.

there are actually 2 relays in the box, one for the glow plugs, the other for the intake heater.

I've found that the relays burn out the contacts inside, is why they crap out. test the relay, it may even click, but there is no continuity on the heavy blades.

the relays are PITA to remove, pay attention to the wiring.

my $0.02

voodoo - Am I correct that the relays are not available separately? I have yet to mess with mine, as I know it is at least a day long project to get it to the dealer.

relays are available seperate, but they are a PITA to remove from the mounting box with out destroying said box.

if you are under 80k I'd try to get emissions warranty on them( i.e., let someone else take the hit )
