Will a floor mounted transfer case from a 2008 LMM swap into my '01? They're both floor mounted but I can't recall if they're the same model.

Thanks.

Iirc they are a different model. Unsure if they will swap though...wouldn't think it'd be that different.

Yeah I was thinking the same but wanted to be sure before I bought it. Otherwise it'll just be a big paper weight for me.

I would just check the tag on the back of the transfer case. The 2001 should be a NVG261. If the same designation is on the 08 then you'll have your answer. The frame on both trucks should be the same as well and as long as you have the same engine & trans combo it should be a straight swap.

the transfer cases are different.

if the LMM xfer case will bolt up? I dont know...

The NP/NVG261 cases were MANUAL shift. The push button 4wd trucks have the NP/NV263

Done some checking at local salvage for a 263 xhd and they told me the GM 261 manual shift case and the GM 263 xhd case should be basic the same for years, but Gm did have some different input shaft spline and output shaft spline counts along with yoke changes on the 261 and the 263xhd transfercase thru the years per motor, transmission , [along with internal update changes] along with several different encoder/motor used per vehicle year and application. I was told to check spline count in and out, and maybe request case & yoke w/ package for correct replacement and make sure encoder/motor same or switch correct encoder/motor from old transfer case over on to new replacement Transfer case so part numbers match and wiring plugs all stay same. Hope this helps !:)

the allison output shaft is 29 spline. There are two different NP261/263 cases. One has a 31 (??) spline for the 4L80's, and the other has a 29-spline for the allison.

They did NOT change over the years 2001-2007

What about the 2008 with the rotary dial 4wd? My T/C does not have a tag on it.

the new xfer cases are made by Magna Powertrain, which bought out new process/new venture.

I think the cases are just basically overhauled NP261/263's. The output shafts, spline counts, bolt patterns, im 99% sure they are all the same with the 01-07 trucks, but the electronics and encoder motors probably changed.

I dont know for sure tho
