I done a search and could not find a thing about that metal cover on the turbo. It seems as though I read in one of these threads about removing the cover and not replacing it. Run cooler? Don't need? I'm full of questions, like someone in these postings said, mods are habit forming. Looking for more horses without spend a lot of cash. Gordon.

Its mostly there to keep you from burning your hands and melting nearby wires, you don't HAVE to have it, but it does serve a purpose.

The 'removed cover' in question is the plastic TURBO POWER cover

One think for sure, if you don't have the cover you can't exchange it for a rebuilt. You will not get any core charge credit.

and if it's loose it will vibrate at idle and make a racket.

It seems he's referring to the tin heat shield on the turbo exhaust housing?

in the original post he's confusing the two covers.

i would keep the heat shield on. removing it makes for a dangerous situation. for wiring and maintanance. not to mention the extra heat under the hood could affect the hoses belts and other rubber and plastic products.

I think that depends on where you take it, I know we have a stack of them, and we don't deny core credit as long as it still looks like a turbo.

[QUOTE=gturbo65c]I done a search and could not find a thing about that metal cover on the turbo. he said metal. Then in the next sentence he says " I read where poeple take it off, for good, does it help the engine run cooler" That's where he's confusing the two. People always talking about taking that turbo power cover off,as mine are set aside, never heard mention of the turbo cover 'cept that it rattles like the dickens if it's not down tight, seen the same:offtopic: .

you are right I did confuse the issue. I was referring to the metal cover on the turbo. Not the plastic or what ever material that it is made of over the intake manifold. However that cover over the intake if it were off I think would let some of that heat escape from the engine, right or wrong? Thanks for the answers sorry to have confused the issue. Gordon.

I removed it, and discarded it to gain easy access to the engine. That cover blocks my view. It doesn't make muck difference cooling it down though.

Hey Texas Diesel Guy, I see in your sig you state dual breathers. Would you care to enlighten me? Gordon.

Not much to it, replaced the CDR cannister and oil filler cap with breathers you can get at any auto parts house.
Although I have to say, I think I'm going to have to do away with mine, The smoke and oil dripping on the ground is getting a little old....
