Hey guys, I'm sure someone has talked about this before, but what's the break in period for the LMM? How many miles should I put before I use the crusie control?

Never heard of waiting to use cruise. I used mine extensively in the first 600 miles, even playing with the new style + & - buttons and not using the throttle or brake at all for long stretches.

Ive always thought that even when setting the cruise on a broken in truck, you should set it at different speeds. For an example if you always cruise at 70mph, every since you bought the truck the engine is not going to wear evenly. That goes for the transmission also. I like to try and set the cruise at different speeds, or put it in M and cruise in a different gear for a little while when trying to break in the truck. Maybe im just being a little anal-retentive about it.
Anyway, to break in mine i ran the oil to 8500 miles and i will change it every 3k miles until i hit 20k miles before i switch to synthetic. A lot of people put synthetic in on the first change but i dont believe it gives it enough time to break in. Another thing you want to do is to properly give the engine some good decompression to set the seals. By this i mean make sure you use manual/tow haul mode to slow the truck down when coming to a stop. If all of the engine wear is dedicated to compression (one direction of force) it cant break in the way it should. Anyway im not gonna get real technical with that cause i dont wanna get criticized if i dont say it exactly right. The best way is to haul a pretty good load for at least 1k miles. Accellerate fairly fast with it then slow back down using tow haul/manual.

I know that nobody ever reads the Owner's Manual, but take a look in there and you will see that it is around 600 miles, and then another 600 miles when you are towing for the first time.

It's not all about the engine boys - think differential........

I just went by what the owners manual said as close as I could achieve. It mentioned not to use cruise control for first 500 I believe, as you should vary speed. Also said no towing until after 500 miles then to increase loads over time for next 500 miles (that part was hard to do)?But everyone seems to have a desired way and thats fine its your vehicle.

i guess im just old school, built quite a few motors in my time. ive always broke them in like i was going run them always. if somethings going to brake its gonna break right off. so people can say what they say but run it like you stole it if thats how you drive.

Owners manual say's first 500 miles, not to go over 60 and to vary your speed...guess that's why someone asked about the cruise control. If your going to "vary" your speed the first 500 miles, then it would be hard to do that AND use cruise control..Same break in period for towing, first 500 miles (towing), not to exceed 60 miles an hour and vary your speed. This is what the owners manual recommends, how you do it is up to you; it's your money and it's your truck.

mine was broke in for 8200 miles i changed the oil at 1400 miles and again at 5k than right again at 8500 it had a easy well rounded begining and it didnt tow untill around 5k miles. every thing seems fine with it sitting at 24k.
