I bought a kit off E-bay anyone running 1 of these and anything to watch out for ? I was hoping for the mpg increase and a little HP is always GOOD!

I have 2 words for you... KA and BOOM.

Which kit did you buy? The thing that you need to be aware of is these are indirect-injection diesels, and propane tends to ignite before the diesel does (predetonation) which makes things go poorly for your engine.

With a lot of propane kits on these engines, you need to keep them turned down so low it doesn't make near the difference you want, just for safety. So you turn it up, and...

KA
and
BOOM

It's one of those things that people just can't seem to help themselves, they have to turn it up until it breaks.

Propane injection on a 6.5 works very well if setup properly. The best one to buy is the Power Shot 2000. Infinite adjustment on both propane and start time. Had on on my 95 and I feel it was better than any chip you could put in it.

Update your signature so you can help us help you. Not all year model 6.5TD are created equal.

I thaught I had found a site a while back that sold the propane kit that was designed for the 6.5TD but, I can not find the site tonight. I will keep looking if I find it I will post it later.

I agree with LanduytG. I have an 01 6.6 w/ Power Shot 2000 works great & is a kick to drive. I plan on stacking it with an 80 hp tune will let you know how all works out. You can run it all the time or just when you need it. If you plan on playing around with it after installation be careful. They are factory set at 5 lbs boost to come on & pane amount per boost pressuer. These are adjustable :D but play safe & if you re-adjust do it in small settings. With pane always remember all adjustments small & work your way up. Fire it up & give it a try after each small adjustment. If you are going to adjust min boost pressure on use a mag to set & would not go below 3lbs boost. But from the factory you will noticethe difference when you touch that button & boost is high :horsey::D:D:D;)
Have fun

An '01 6.6 is a LOT different than any 6.5 out there. Where do I start? Detroit design vs Isuzu design. IDI vs DI. Electronic (and a few mechanical) rotary pump vs high pressure common rail. Totally different animals.

I too agree that propane CAN be done on a 6.5, but, as jifaire stated, power is addicting, and it's very easy to go overboard, then you will hear his two favorite words...

Does anyone remember Ian from Heath's 303 RWHP 6.5 dyno run? Does anyone remember he did run nitrous, 'pane, and WMI? Rumor had it at that time that Heath is currently working on a propane kit for the 6.5. If I were looking to add 'pane to a 6.5, I'd wait for a Heath kit, not because I'm a Heath cheerleader, as some call us, but because this is technology that has the capability to send a 6.5 to Pluto and back, and I know that Heath's products go through a bunch of testing for performance AND reliability.

Here's my firsthand experience.
I ran a Power Shot 2000 for a few months a few years back. Wasn't happy with it so I took it off and got rid of it. Here's the deal: adjusted right I could get a pretty decent bottom end kick out of it, hotrodding it around empty. Nice low end throttle response, went away after 40 or 50 mph. Not so much went away, just wasn't as noticeable once you got the weight moving.
Couple things I didn't like. There's really no savings to be had unless you have access to free propane. And put a lot of miles on to make it all worthwhile. I got a couple miles more per gallon, and was pushing about $60 a month through it. For the amount of miles I was driving $60 probably would have bought the fuel to replace the 2 mpgs. Also, was never really comfortable with a propane tank in the truck. I don't mean I was scared to death, but I was always kind of conscious of the tank and lines, and the potential for sudden loud noises followed by spectacular fire.
Here's my biggest gripe. The main reason I wanted it, in addition to hotrodding, was for a little more towing power. My truck struggles on the hills, so I thought a little boost of power would be nice. Problem was that with the trailer on as soon as I put a load on the engine, it started detonating (pinging) I had to keep turning it back down until I was gaining no power at all from it, just to make the engine sound like it might live to the top of the hill. So it was totally contrary to adding power for towing. Or maybe I should say torque.
If you do enough research you will find that the indirect injection system is not at all suited to the injection of propane. IMO not worth the expense for the little amount of power to be had. I would be curious to know how much better it would work with a hot ECM. Mine was on a stock truck with nothing but exhaust.
That's my $0.02

It works great with a hot ECM, I/C and all the other mods there are for the 6.5.

Untill it breaks 5 pistons and leaves you in the middle of nowhere.. LOL

I also speak from personal experience.
Just dont get greedy. You have been officially warned ( It didnt stop me either )

A guy in the Diesel Power Challenge 08' is runnin a DeLuca CNG (compressed natural gas) injection system on his Dmax, and got 38 MPG on the MPG test.

I have no clue the effects on IDI seeing as the Dmax is DI, just keeping the topic alive :D

It's been several weeks since the conversation, but I believe Heath has a propane fumigation system coming sometime soon. If there was a system that was "set up" properly, I imagine that would be the one to wait for.

I don't have personal experience with propane but I figure the problem running it on a 6.5 is that its high compression and small displacement at TDC as much as it being IDI. The hotter compression stroke causes the precombustion when running higher doses of LP. The IDI flame blast doesn't help nor the uneven head bolt spacing. Again I postulate the reason the cummins and 6.6 can tolerate the LP better is that they are beefier in general overall better head clamping and pump more air into cylinder. And can see where the dished and sculped piston crown difuses the combustion event pressure better. They have better peak cylinder pressure control with common rail too. I have read the ratio of diesel to LP is the key.

I would further venture to say an 18:1 engine would tolerate LP much better. Also an intercooler would help. The other engines are intercooled again cooling compression stroke and helping control EGT's.
