: Interesting Performance Comparison with Chevy Gasser

My family and I recently camped with relatives and naturally my Uncle and I compared tow vehicles. I thought it was a very interesting comparison.

My rig is the Savana in my sig. The only modification is the slight exhaust modification. It was pulling a travel trailer, about 8,000 lb. My Uncle's rig was a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500 with the 6.0L gas engine. His travel trailer was much smaller, about 3,500 lb.

I'm not sure about gears and stuff, but I thought is was very interesting that when comparing how our two trucks pulled our trailers up this mountain to the campground, we experienced VERY similar performance. We both could only maintain a certain speed up this steep hill.

Even though I've only got 195 hp, apparently I can still compete with newer gassers!:D

There is a lot more you can do to improve that situation - check it out in the FAQs

Don't get me wrong, I am a very firm believer in the 6.5, but the gasser should have done better than you in that situation.

vanman, it is not the horses but the torque that pulls the load. compare the numbers on yours and the gasser and you will see what i mean. horses will get you out of the gate faster but pulling up a hill give me low horsepower and high torque any day of the week. i'll wait on top of the hill for the gasser.

Maybe his trailer is heavier than you think. It should have no trouble with 3500lbs.

Ya, when he was telling me how his truck was doing, I thought it was a little wierd. It seemed real underpowered. I guess his trailer must have been heavier than I thought.
