: Low beams with high beams???
gittyup 03-05-2005, 12:21 PM Anyone know about a kit that will allow your low beams to stay on when you click over to high beams? I bought my truck used in texas from a dealer the person that had it before did lots of little upgrades PIAA bulbs, Kenwood headunit & speakers, tough country bumper replacement (that he Line-Xed)...
When I got the truck on low beam the outer two lights on and high beam all four. Now it does not work back to normal. There is a wire on the passenger side conecting high & low beam with some little round thing about half way between? is that what made it work? and if so why did it quit working?
Thanks for any input

Good Grief, Charlie Brown !! 50 bucks :wtf1:
Need to do a bit of searching here on Headlights or Hi-beams. A 1N4001 diode from Radio Shack for about 79 cents, a bit of wire and shrink fit and your in business. If I recall correctly it is terminal 85 on the high beams for the anode and terminal 85 on the low beams for the cathode.

JimNot on the 01-02's. That mod only works on the 03+ trucks
Blnagel figured out how to do it on the earlier trucks.
Heres the thread...Ben's mod is towards the back....http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12804&highlight=low+beams

I ran it in a loom up to the ground studs on the firewall (follow your underhood light wires down if you can't find one). That's it, test it out and fold the center back down. Recover and replace the brace"

Look on page 17 post #165. There are my pictures. I cannot paste them here. Good luck.
Haulin_Doubles 03-05-2005, 07:32 PM Ben,
Will both Hi & Lo lights shine at thier there brightest Potential (as before the mod)? I tried the Stylin Concepts product (piece of sh@#!) product and all it did was take away pwer. Every time I would put the Hi beams on, the Lo's would stay on but bothe sets of lights were dimmer than stock. Essentially, I lost more light than I gained.
Let me know your answer, thanks!

blnagel 03-05-2005, 09:02 PM YES. I dont mind driving at night now. VERY BRIGHT INDEED. I also added the Siverstar bulbs and they made it brighter as well.
Good luck.

Majuba Max 03-06-2005, 03:05 PM do the diode thing much easier the diode is only so theirs no feed back to the low beams diode #4100 t0 4700 will do solder a short wire to each end and shrink it put it between relays hi and low on terminal #85 it has to face a one way it takes all of 10 minutes to do thiers a long forum about it in here with pictures

Here's how I did it on my 02, no diode needed, will work for 01s also; Pull the underhood electrical center cover off, place aside. Unbold the four bolts holding the drivers side corner brace (fender to firewall) and remove. This is to remove the cover surround on the electrical center. Gently pry the plastic snaps holding it in place. There are two between it and the fender and two large hooks toward the passenger side at the bottom. Now lift off the plastic cover for the electrical center. You will see two clips holding the electrical center close to the fender side while the two toward the passenger side are hinges. Release the two by the fender and roll the electical center towards the passenger side. The mess of wires will tug a little but it will roll over to expose the underside. Looking at the right underside you will see a grey wire block. There are small letters and numbers identifying the wires. Look for D3 and you will find a yellow wire. This is the control for the low beams. Is is switched ground on the 01-02s unlike the 03-04s. All you need to do is get a scotchlock (or solder if you prefer) and tap the yellow wire to ground. I ran it in a loom up to the ground studs on the firewall (follow your underhood light wires down if you can't find one). That's it, test it out and fold the center back down. And no the low beams won't be on all the time. When you turn the lights on or the auto sensor does it for you they will come on. However now when you switch on the high beams the lows won't shut off (the drls and fogs will as usual when the lows are on). You can remove the wire (or disconnect it) and you will be back to original.
Enjoy and let me know if you have questions,
Michael

:Nonono: Thought that post looked familiar.
gittyup 03-22-2005, 07:53 PM well I dident do anything to it but the dang thing started workin' again so I aint gonna mess with it. I will be installing OJ & 4" exhaust this weekend and I will try to take a picture or two of it.
Thanks for all of your input!!!
lovette 03-23-2005, 06:52 PM I'm not as electrically inclined as some of the others above, so I went with the Kennedy headlight booster harness. Yes it costs more, but it's well made, uses relays and taps power directly off the battery so you get max power to the lamps. Also added GM Denali lamps (all 4 9005 bulbs). Let there be light!
FYI, I got factory Denali lamps from the dealer. Didn't realize it at first, but mine came with built in adapters to allow them to plug up to 9006low/9005high harness on my HD. I had ordered the "special Denali" harness from Kennedy, which has all 9005 plugs. I had to disconnect the 9006 to 9005 adapter on the Denali lamps and hook the booster plugs directly to the 9005 bulb (5 sec quickie).
Z71 Grizzly 03-23-2005, 07:01 PM Does this burn up anything by making it hotter? Melt housing
