Ok, had SC 5 installed 2 days ago. Haven't driven it much yet ... only about 50 miles on country roads. This morning I noticed some ATF on garage floor. Crawled under and found drops of ATF hanging on the shaft seal on rear of transfer case where drive shaft yoke slides into. No leaks anywhere else. It's leaked enough to throw fluid rearward and wet the pumpkin and surrounding area.

The transfer case was a little over full as when I pulled the plug about 6 oz. drained out quickly. Truck was level ...

I am a little concerned as I'm driving the truck tomorrow, pulling my 20' cargo trailer to the coast. I called the shop and told him about it. He just said to check the transfer case level which I did ...and if it continues to seap to bring it back. They didn't replace the seal and I didn't expect them to as I only have 24K on the truck.

Thoughts? Could it just be seaping due to too much fluid in the tranfer case?
I guess I'll know more tomorrow :)

could have just been a bit of residue. Clean it well and recheck.

ALso could have gotten a bit of grit onthe yoke and it damaged the seal. Overfull? That should have been corrected if found to be full by the installer?

I agree on the fluid level ...but it wasn't badly overfilled. I did check the tranny hot 3 times and it's right on the full mark so I was happy with that :) They did do a good job installing ...cleaned everything up very well ..you could eat off it. Don't like dribbles though!

It's shifting well but occasionally surprises me. I've only driven it about 50 miles so far and assume it needs more time? I think Joe said to give it a week or so?

It will take a lot more then 50 miles. If the adapts were not reset, a week minimum. A fast learn adapt process will help it get its chit togather faster. A tech2 is needed to perform that

Don't understand over filling transfer case. It fills through the hole in back and runs out the second it is full. I would recheck atf fluid and make sure it is below full mark. Check gasket between Ally and T/Case for seepage. Reach your hand to the top rear of the Ally and see if there is any atf wetness. When Ally is overfull it runs down from the top rear ( thats where the overflow is ) to behind the nsbu switch and down to the left rear of trans pan. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. When I checked the tranny this afternoon and said it was "full" ...it is actually about 1/8" below the top full mark. I have checked it over from top to bottom and didn't find any leaks or signs of seepage as I wanted to make sure they didn't overlook anything after spending the $$$ on the tranny. :) Mike, if you would have been closer then 1000 miles each way I would have made the drive. Just hard to get away from work right now.

The installer (Salem Transmission) did not have a Tech II and said they used some new Snap-On handheld that did allow them to set the fast learn process ...I am assuming this meant resetting the TAP cells? Rick, the owner said he did talk to Joe beforehand several times and verified the Snap-On device they had would do what needed to be done and Joe concurred. All I can do is assume the correct procedure was performed as Joe did make it clear to Rick the reset/fast learn process was a must.

I agree, the overfill of the T case was a goober ...I even did the change myself once when the truck had about 5K on it. I guessed 6 oz ...could have been 4 or perhaps less. It was enough to soak a shop rag.
Just hope I don't confuse the tranny pulling the trailer this weekend?

You will be just fine towing, have fun.:exactly:

What Eric is talking about is an actual procedure that is done with a Tech2 that fills the clutch circuits one at a time to figure capacities and fill times. Resetting the TAPS will have the same result, it just takes longer.

Well the damn output shaft seal linked all the way to the coast. Enough to wet the rear diff and some on the underbody. I stopped about 3 times over the 150 mile trip and it leaked the whole way. Drops hanging from seal ...completely dry there forward.

Before heading home this afternoon I went ahead and pull the driveline in a parking lot out of disgust knowing it would leak all the way home. The yoke was fine ...no burrs or any damage I could see. The seal felt/looked fine but did notice some old grease on the end of the output shaft from last year when I greased the splines. I just wiped everything down real good and slid it back in. It didn't leak a drop the entire trip home. Go figure.

The SC 5 shifted real good both going and coming home ...was pulling a 20' enclosed cargo trailer full of quads and gear... not much weight ...probably around 5K or so but was real pleased with how it shifted. All shifts were smooth and firm and never missed a beat or 'flared' up the entire trip.
