: Less than 15K and Dignostic Fee?

My LBZ over the weekend had the CEL light come on. It still ran well, so I decide to wait until this morning to visit my local Chev. Dealer. Before I went had my regular gas mechanic pull the codes, p0403. I get to the dealer, tell him what the code is, he gets in turns the key, and the CEL was no longer illuminated. This is the kicker, he then tells me I need to pay a "Diagnostic Fee" of 250 bucks , which will be waived if there is a warranty issue. I looked at him and told him the truck wasn't even 18 months old, and had less than 15K on it, I was not going to pay anything, it should be covered under warranty. I also told him I know who their GM DM is, (He is my neighbor :D) and I would be calling him. He then tells me they will waive the fee since they value me as a customer. As he is filling out the paperwork, he tells me he has to inspect under the hood. I asked him why, he said to make sure everything is still there. I asked him why the engine would not be there, he stated some folks add things and they have to make sure there have not been any modifications. During the inspection he notes there is an "Vehicle has been modified to allow for a boost gauge", and the infamous, "Vehicle has been modified to allow for an EGR Probe". The boost modification, is a SoCal Diesel Boost Manifold. I probably won't be going back there again, I will be going 30 miles farther (Wm L Morris, Fillmore) to a friendlier dealership I have done business with before that understands what a warranty is, and do not care about gauges.

This place - Power Chevrolet is off my list of places to get work done. I get the truck back, on the work order it shows they flashed the ECM, and cleaned the EGR, all looks fine. I unfold it and notice an entry that states "Front Diff Leaking", and that is it. I ask the Service Writer about it. He tells me to keep an eye on it and bring it back if it gets worse, they don't fix issues unless the customer specifically asks them to . I asked, which side, driver's, passenger's, and from where exactly is it leaking. He could not tell me where, other than it was leaking and keep an eye on it:eek:.

Time to visit the dealer that is 30 miles farther.

I'm surpised they are like this-idiots!My local dealer is real good to me and I didnt even purchase the vehicle from them.I thought that when you go in for service that GM sends you out a customer satifaction survey and if they dont get good marks(local GM) -GM gets all over them-not sure if true but I was told that.

After we went round & round with our closest dealer about getting the injectors on our LB7 replaced under warranty (we were *well* within the warranty), they sent me a survey, but had the b@lls to include a letter with instructions on how to appropriately check the "very satisfied" box!

Called GM on Wednesday, the CEL with the P0403 again. They told me to take it back to the dealer that did the work, since GM does not pay for the same repair twice. Got the truck back, they said they cleaned the EGR again, and flashed the ECM again.
Fast forward to this evening, guess what, CEL again, and the infamous P0403. Either they are just clearing it, or they need to replace it. I am calling GM again, and tell them I am not taking it back there, they obviously can't fix it. If I get any slack, I will remind them of California's Lemon Law. I don't want to play that card, but I am not happy with the quality of service I have received. I could understand the clean and flash once, replace the second time, but having it parked at their service department 3 times in a 7 day period for the same problem isn't something that should happen.

Well, not to long ago..mind developed a oil leak on the back side of the engine (ended up being the rear main). And, of all things, the day it was on the way to the dealer it poped the CEL light...wonderful

Well, they found the P0403 code and without ANY hesitation they said they would replace the EGR assembly. No beating around the bush from my dealer. So when they got the parts in, they replaced that as well as the oil gaskets. (Not just the one that was leaking, every single one from the main back.) Even gave me a SSR to ride around in for free.

Country Chevrolet in Mayfield, KY...really surprised me with thier service after hearing all the horror stories these days.

Didn't you say the DM is your neighbor? I would be inviting him over for a tasty cool beverage.

I agree with that. Have a beverage or two with that DM.
