I just bought (20 days ago) a 01 and its seems to be having a hard time starting in the cold. It is 15-20F and the truck will start for a few seconds then die and wont restart. I cycle the glow 4 times light stays for a long time and still the same thing just cranks and cranks. When it does start it sounds like its a big block with a huge cam, lopes pretty bad. I'm not sure if I can get it covered under warranty because I dont know what I should be looking for injectors, glow plugs, or the bleeder screw (fuel). where should I start looking? Love the truck not happy with the problems already. I have access to a snapon modis scanner but I don't know what numbers are right and what isn't. Got the right tools just no diesel knowledge.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/help2.gif The first time truck sat for 3 days, not plugged in, thought it was because it sat so long. It did the same thing the next day and has everyday after that it has been cold.
Thanks Mark

Probably a glow plug issue, they are covered under the 5/100... How new is the fuel filter? Any water or gelling issues?

I have no idea on the fuel filter I just bought the truck. You think I should change the filter? Can I check the glow plugs or the solenoid on a snapon scanner? Max ran a vin check for me and there has never been any injector work on it. I seem to be lucky there so far. Thanks http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23949

I would change the filter, you cant change these filters enough. Might try an anti gel additive too, just to make sure you dont have some non winter blend fuel.

Thanks! I'll change the filter and add some additive to see if that helps? Thanks again. Thanks for helping me with the 4 wheel drive question before. I haven't had a chance to get it on the scan tool yet. Thanks! you guys are the best!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rockon.gif
