I know it's a good thing to let your turbo cool down some before shutting the truck off. I don't have a heavy foot and tend to coast into a parking lot so the engine is already cooling down. Then I let the engine idol a bit.

I saw somewhere some one had something that would help cool the turbo down when you shut down. I don't know if the if it kept the truck running a bit more or what but I can't seem to find it again.

I guess it's the countryboy in me, I slow way down before I get where I'm going and the pyro is at the low end of the gauge before I park.

DG,

I had the post on a turbo timer, but I think it was TD that directed me to a Banks article that stated that turbo cool down is not a big problem for new turbos. But for the $50 bucks I'm still thinking its a cheap investment to preserve life a a turbo, since I just installed a brand spanky new one. And yes the way the work is it is wired into ignition much line a remote starter, except when you turn truck off it will run to setting you have it set to. There is theft protection so somebody can't take off with your beast. I have them on my other high performance car that is turbo charged but I have run that thing so hard the the turbine housing was glowing and transparent. I haven't put one on the truck yet, I have a few other gremlins to catch first.

Define newer turbo? Mine is the original and I want to keep it that way. I'm just starting to do some upgrades and having to replace stock parts(well might not replace with stock a turbo.) eats into what little the truck can get. So little things that increase life are worth it to me. If anyone knows of any sites listing info and prices on them please post.

I can give you guys links to sites that I have purchased my turbo timer from. It was a used piece but works just fine. The site has at least 10 used ones listed now all about 50 bucks. So JMG let me know if you want site and you can spend your $50 bucks.

I replaced my old GM8 with a brand new GM8. It was the easiest change not have to do any changing of things a complete bolt on replacement. Couldn't beat it for $350 shipped to my door, directly from a guy that worked at Borg Warner.
