Is $1000 a good deal for a used Allison? It came out of a 2003 8.1L truck... It should work in my 04 dmax, or even as a spare to get built, right?

If I checked an 02 with 8.1L would it be the same as this 03 with 8.1L? Or has someone done this before that could shed a bit of light on the subject... Thanks guys!
