: Good News, Bad News.....
BiteMe 03-04-2005, 03:24 AM Hey guys --
Bad News: Trucks been blowing white smoke out of the exhaust pipe and mileage has taken a dump.
Good News: Took truck to dealer and was told all 8 injectors would be replaced under warranty -- and their in stock! :ro)
Bad News: Dealer can't do it until next week (Thursday). I'm going to pick it up in the morning, drive it all week, then drop it off next Thursday for the work to be done.
The Question: Will driving it for a week longer (+/- 750 miles) hurt anything?
I'm not very excited about the possibility of renting a car for 7 days, but I don't want to risk damaging the truck (even though the Service Advisor said "Sure, no problem!") I'm reluctant to try anywhere else -- at this point (except the week delay), they're replacing them without any hassle....
Thanks for any / all help!

dirty old man 03-04-2005, 05:08 AM :ro) I'm in the house, barefooted in a robe, bareassed under it! And my warranty is in the truck, which is up the hill in the car shed. But, IIRC the warranty covers a loaner while under warranty. Somebody help us out here!
If the leaking injectors are getting fuel in the oil, I wouldn't want to drive it around the block, let alone 750 miles.
MrsSpoolin 03-04-2005, 05:23 AM A loaner is only covered while it is being worked on. Trust me, I've had a few from GM. Total engine replacement plus the brake system worked on.
I'm not much help on the driving issue, when ours went it took the engine and left us deadlined in Arizona while moving to Alaska.
Mackin 03-04-2005, 05:56 AM I wouldn't drive it
BiteMe 03-04-2005, 09:38 AM Thanks for all the help guys. That's what I was afraid of....

partsguy662 03-04-2005, 09:43 AM I wouldn't be driving it either....If that truck starts "making oil", things could get ugly in a hurry.....
BiteMe 03-05-2005, 12:55 PM If things do "get ugly", what would happen?
Can I do long term damage to the engine -- something the dealer either wouldn't know about, or wouldn't mention? Is there a way I can check to see if the bad injector(s) already caused long term damage??? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif
I've done the papertowel oil/fuel test and didn't see anything abnormal -- I'll keep checking it and will drive the truck as little as possible....
Injectors scheduled for replacement next Wednesday....
Thanks for any input!

SpoolinTurbo 03-05-2005, 01:49 PM Ugly?
Injector failed, stuck open. #7 piston and rod cracked. Truck sounded like it was going to self destruct. New engine because the rod end scored the cylinder wall and generally the whole shebang was done.
Go ahead and drive on trashed injectors. Hope you have a tow company on speed dial.

Jonathan G 03-05-2005, 04:33 PM I definately would not drive it. You could also wash out your crank bearings. You are real lucky you can get it in for repair so quickly!
hd90rider 03-05-2005, 04:47 PM keep driving but have $12,000 to replace motor when crank goes BOOM.
BiteMe 03-07-2005, 01:34 AM Thanks for all the advise guys --
I didn't drive it all weekend and AAA's coming tomorrow morning -- even if the dealer can't work on it until Wednesday, at least I'm not tempted to do anything stupid....
When they do the injector job, will the tech check to see if the faulty injectors caused any other damage? Is there any way I should / can follow up on this???
Once again - thanks for all the help.

Too bad you just missed socaldieseltech who was at Nicholas Chevy, Garden Grove. He would have fixed you right up.
When he announced his departure from Nicholas, he said to give him a PM for reference to good Orange County good diesel techs for warranty service.
Where are you having the service done? Let us know how they treat you and your truck.

Didn't he open his shop in Lake Elsinore? If I ever need any work done that is not warranty, I'll definately be giving him a call.
I'll let you know how everything goes.
