: EFI Live and brake tune
ejc1214 08-13-2008, 09:28 AM Anyone use the EFI Live towing tune with the turbo brake setting? I was told that EFI can do a turbo brake tune that works every time one lets off the gas pedal. Any info on it will be appreciated as I have a Pacbrake system not that leaves a lot to be desired, in my opinion. Sometimes it works and other times the compressor won't come on at all.
Cougar281 08-13-2008, 11:52 AM I set D2210-D2215 so that 800-4800RPM @ 0mm3 is 99.5%, B2222-B2224 to 100% and B2225 to 99% (all in the same 800-4800 @ 0mm3). I'd say it definately makes a difference in T/H, moreso at higher RPMs. That forces the vanes to between 99% and 100% when no fuel is being injected (coasting, slowing down, etc).
the4wheeler 08-13-2008, 12:30 PM theirs a tune in on of the liberarys that has the turbo breaking setup in it . i used that that as base defenetly works grate!
stacks04 08-13-2008, 01:59 PM cougar, have you noticed any decrease in milage with it set that way. i mean due to the lack of flow. i always wondered if this killed your milage because it seems theoretically you'd have to be in the throttle a little more.

I don't think so... Kinda hard to tell since I'm usually running a big tune and always have my foot in it :D. It shouldn't affect economy though because the only time it kicks in is when zero fuel is being injected (such as coasting to a stop). Soon as any fuel is injected, the vanes will open up to whatever the tables request.
Blazin TA 08-13-2008, 11:55 PM im running a towing tune that has turbo brakeing in it. with the t/h on it helps alot in the higher rpm. with a 13k pound trailer i can put my truck in 3rd gear and it will hold 45mph on a 6% grade (pretty steep). no hitting the brakes at all.
ejc1214 08-17-2008, 07:25 PM Thanks for the info guys. Looks like my Pacbrake is finally working right. I am going to run it for now since I got so much money invest in it. I will give the new Evo tunes a try before going to EFI live.
How much power is the tow tune with e-brake set at and throwing any codes?
gixxergreg 08-18-2008, 08:05 AM For you guys running a brake tune in your trucks, can you get it to only work in tow/haul mode or does it have to be all the time?
DURAtotheMAX 08-18-2008, 08:58 AM has to be on all the time.

Greg, it works all the time, but the t/h keeps the tc locked. As with any engine/ tranny brake, it will only hold (be efficient) with a 1to1 coupling from engine to tranny.
gixxergreg 08-18-2008, 07:49 PM Would be awesome to find a way to have it work only when you use tow/haul mode
DrHolliday 08-18-2008, 10:24 PM once we get a dsp for 06 and newer trucks we won't need to worry about it b/c we can switch on the fly

very true. how do you like your 1054 converter?
DrHolliday 08-18-2008, 10:33 PM I like it allot with EFI live. I hated it with the Edge J/A. With my hot tune I can brake boost to over 25 psi and spin 3 tires hard... I need a locker, lol. It starts to pull through the brakes at 1900 to 2000 rpms and the lock up isn't too harsh.

nice. did you do anything diffrent when tuneing the truck because of he converter?
DrHolliday 08-18-2008, 10:43 PM Not sure, Dustin with Diesel Addiction wrote the hot tune and it builds boost crazy fast, I know he runs a similar if not the same Vane position tables on his LLY with a 1058
