just recieved my 05 2500 duramax. WOW!! nicest thing I've ever gotton.

My truck has 14 hours,
--should I break it in easy?
--how should I break it in, some say to drive it a little hard.
--Do I need to be careful on what fuel? or is it pretty standard

thanks, charlie

Just like S_X, slow at the beginning, guarantees a grand finish.

Most break ins are for seating the piston rings and letting the cams get polished. No hard starts or full throttle for about 1500 miles otherwise you run the risk of baking the cylinder walls. Additionaly, minimize idling(this is bad for the cams) and vary your RPM's around lot (as in no cruise control)

I don't think the excessive idling applies anymore since this is a roller tappet engine. However, excessive idling isn't a great thing anyway.

Every new car, and the dmax, I have ever bought I used the same break in method.

1-200 miles up to or at or about 45. No hard acceleration.

2-400 miles up to 55 but don't hold for long. Slow but firm acceration.

4-500 miles up to 65 but don't hold for long, and accelerate up to 70 and back off every once in a while. Normal acceleration.

After 500 drive it as you normally would.

I have NEVER had a new car I broke in this way use any oil, "0" period.

I have sold these cars with over 100K on them an they all lasted to 200K, or they wrecked it and still didn't use oil.

Most people don't want to do it slow, but it has been very successful for me.
