I don't want to leave anyone out. I want everyone's input. I've done all the searches and there's tons of answers. But, I want to hear from the guys above (and more). I've got an '05 Dmax LLY with 1500 miles on it and I'm ready to get a programmer.....but which one? My head is spinning with all of the different info---Predator, HyperTech III, new Superchip, Edge/Juice w/Attitude, V/A, etc. etc. etc.

I'm a newbie to diesels, I don't know sh%t and I'm ready to get a programmer that will: A) Let me calibrate for 265's B) Give me a little bit better fuel mileage (maybe?) C) Give me a hp boost and D) Help me with my towing--which amounts to very little / and when I do it's usually no more than 4K - 7K lbs. :help:

First off welcome to the site! All programmers have their plus's and minus's. ;) If you thought your head was spinning before just wait til you see all the responses and opinions you will get. Also, there is plenty of good intel on the site if you do a search. Good luck. JJ :)

Oh what the heck, on edit I may as well weigh in on my decision to purchase the E/J w/attitude. I tow heavy and I liked the tranny and EGT protection offered by the E/J. There are better programmers for racing, but few offer the extra oomph and protection like the E/J. You will also need to look at exhaust upgrades and gauges. JJ's out. :)

Well, I'm not on your list, but I'll offer my opinion for what it's worth
For what you're looking for, the predator seems to be the best choice...You can change your tire size calibration, add some power for everything (towing and empty)
I would have bought an Edge unit for my truck had I not read about the issues some of the other members are having with theirs on the LLY trucks. (I like the idea of having the gauges right there with the product)
Another nice feature of the predator is the diagnostics you get with it (very nice when/if you get a check engine code..get the code, ask about it and find out what the problem is)
Just keep in mind, with the higher horsepower programs (no matter what brand you go with) your transmission's life will be shortened by flogging on the truck hard....

For towing, I like the TTS Tow. So far, I haven't found anything as smooth and predictable.

For flexibility and value, the Predator is a tough act to follow. Code reader, speed limiter remover, tire adjuster, and performance tuner all in one shot.

Got Juice?

I'm a bad person to ask on that.... I am unfamiliar with the LLY
Sorry.

From other peoples feedback TTS/Predator or Juice

No first hand experience, but the Pred seems to be what I move the most off for the LLY, The JAT is nice with the monitor etc, but seems to have some issues for some. TS Activator is coming out soon and that may be an option as well.

i feel your pain, it took me weeks to decide. I was gonna go with the e/j cause i liked the idea of the tranny protection. But, I saw a lot of people were having some trouble with them so I went with the Predator. IT RULES!!!! I love the thing, it didnt put me in the poor house, the tranny learned it quickly and its just all round great so far. Id say that it MUST be accompanied by a set of gauges if you want to monitor whats going on, but even with the programmer and all your gauges you can still spend less than you would on the e/j with attitude.

Get a good tranny upgrade then get one of each :exactly: .

I've got J/A and since the preheater got hooked up it's working OK now.

I see a hot J upgrade soon.

Predator looks good.

I too have the LLY, and after a lot of research ended up with the Predator. I am very pleased so far.

Thanks for everyone's input so far. And anyone one with LLY programmer experience....please post. I recently saw a post by Mark @ DPPI that said he's shipped out a bunch of new Superchips with zero customer complaints - what about the other vendors out there, what's been your experience so far?

The superchips is excellent,so is the predator wont be a bad choice for either.Guys are liking them equal we have sent a ton of both out

I have both the Edge/attitude and predator. The predator is a good unit and seems to work well with the LLY. It also has the diag. features along with speed limiter adjust and tire size adjust. It doesn't have any tranny protection or guage features. The edge/attitude is a great unit as well. It costs a bit more but you get some monitoring features with the attitude that is worth the $$. Also you get the added tranny protection. You can't adjust the speed limiter and the tire size adjust only works for the Attitude display not the speedo.

I recommend if you get the predator you should get a EGT guage. If you aren't looking to make a race truck out of it leave the predator on the 40hp setting and you'll should be happy on how the extra power helps the towing ability of the truck. Same with the edge on level 1 or 2 for towing.

I don't think that anybody has perfected their units yet. If you wanted to make a choice today, based on your requirements to correct speedo, I'd say Diablo Predator. Edge would be a close second, but cannot do speed functions other than it's own display. Now Edge is supposed to have some programming updates coming (not speed calibration related) so time will tell...

I haven't yet tried the Superchips on my truck, but hope to try any interim Edge updates this weekend if available.

Remember, if you want to calibrate the speedo for different sized tires, only programmers will allow you to do this. I would go with the Diablosport Predator.

Get the Predator and dont look back. Best value for the money and is a very stong runner. As Eric mentioned, the TS Activator will be out soon and is running very well on my LLY.

I can't believe bronco got included ):hI knew my 15 minutes of fame would not last long! :(

Maybe he wanted some info from the otherside? You know, the side that is not looking for a bloated race vehicle.;)

My advice would be by a downloader not a module. Adjust it to a middle setting like 70 HP. Set it and forget it! No gauges, no tranny, no nonsense.

With a catalatic converter free 4" exaust: the egt, tranny wear & tear, and exaust smoke will all be reasonable. Day in and day out.

Not for racing, just better passing, towing and overall driving expereince.

Just a couple of things..... You can get the dealer to match up on 265's as the 3500's come with them, OEM. Unless you wanting to clip the MPH limmit, I would get an Edge/Attitude. However, if you want an 'upload' box I would say get the Diablo. I think they make a great product...However, you might want to ask about Diablo EGT's first. With any of these tuners your *safety* zone should be below 60HP for the Transmission and EGT's.

Has anyone done any 0-60 or 1/4 runs with the Predator on the LLY?

Just playing ):h , I'd think he would have asked for more LLY owners since he has one.

Brandon and sp33d would be good ones to ask to.

Seems Brandon has/had an LLY hot J/A.

For Safe power with trans and EGT protection Edge or Banks. If you are patient banks has the new PDA coming out with built in gages and read/clear codes along with a host of other features (EGT history graphs,1/4 mile and 0-60 times, etc and I think tire calibration) and a "black box" later to be released for speed limit removal. Edge gives power at lower RPM which can be good or bad, it is twitchy on higher settings while banks is very smooth but not the best for drag racing. I am partial to these two because I like to drive normally in middle/lower setting but if i roll up to a light and want to smoke a ricer I can bump it up as needed. And if I have a tailgater both Banks and Edge smoke quite well on their highest setting without having to smoke all the time. Ya see I live in tree hugger country and some will follow you and vandalize your vehicle at night if you smoke too much. If switch on the fly and trans/EGT protection are of less importance than Pred. is probably best.
