I think im about ready to put a different charger on my truck. Maybe this fall or winter project..havent decided yet. I was wanting to hear from the guys that have garrett ball bearing turbos. What are you guys running, what do you recommend and how do you like them? Im thinking just a 2.6 charger for now but I guess it just depends on whats out there. I was also curious about turbonetics chargers. I cant seem to find much info on them. Do they make a setup for the dmax and is anyone running one? Thanks a ton for your time guys! Chris

Seems to me the guys that use Turbonetics love them, but the support from them is lacking, but guys that go Garrett love them to and seem to get good support and customer service. Sounds like even vendors that sell Turbonetics cant even get ahold or them or any help from them. I thought about running one on my Chevy Cummins but after reading all the stuff about them I decided against it. I think I'll go with an S465 there relitvely inexpensive, and people love them, it'd be nice to hear what guys who run them on D-maxes think about them though

Try and give Black Widow diesel a call about the Turbonetics chargers. I just got a 3.0 midframe custom built by them. They are very well versed in turbo sizing for sled pulling.

Alright thanks alot guys! What about the gt4094? What do you guys know or have to say about that charger. Im pretty sure its a 2.7 charger..right? Can you get bushings for a charger like that if they were needed? and also would you be afraid to run it on a stock motor for a while till the money was available to build it? Sorry for all the questions. Chris

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm really getting the itch to upgrade, but I have no idea what is safe, and what's not. Not to mention the fact that I have no idea what is reasonable for a daily driver that needs to be reliable. I too, would appreciate any replies.

4094 gets my vote, I'm pretty sure you can put a bushing in it. There are quite a few people running these on stock motors too:D

I think you would be fine with a 4094 too.

How much power are guys making with the 4094 or how much potential do they have? Say later on if I went with dual cp3's and all that good stuff.

I believe those are more geared toward the gasoline crowd. I could be wrong thou. Check out the 2.6 legal turbos might be a little better geared to sled pulling.

Chris, the 4094 is an awesome turbo!! You can run it hard with a single CP3 and expect a good lifespan. If you go dual fuelers.............your gonna' be needin' rods!!
I towed heavy and often with my 4094 and had no problem.
Good luck, Ed.

I like the 4094.. You can buy a 4088r and then throw a '94 wheel in it and have the cover machined by a certain shop to be 2.6 legal.
:D

Take a ride in Dustin's truck.. Or take a ride in Michael Shirley's... Or drop your truck off next week and you can take your truck for a test drive. :D

Yeah......a 2.6-legal modded 4088/4094 would be sweeeeeet!

I read this month in "diesel tech" about a lly that they put a garrett gt4094R on with a single mod cp3 and a ppe tuner and turned 570hp and over 1000ft/lbs. That particular turbo doesn't boost more than 32psi so it's safe for a stock motor and even if u didnt have the cp3 you could prob still spin 500hp.

I think the 70mm boosts over 45 or 50 psi which from what I hear is getting into head stud country. from what I hear if ytou don't go over 40psi you "should" be ok but it depends of current condition.

ppe sells a kit for the gt4094R that seems to me is what you are looking for. the mag gave a part # also if you want it. or you can buy the mag for the whole build.

anyone with that turbo setup wanna give there 2 cents as I myself am looking into that charger... havn't driven one...but would like to:D

Brayden, what kind of stuff can you do to modify the stock turbo on my truck? Is it worth doing when the money involved and perfromance gain are compared to putting a whole new turbo on?

I don't want to have to go inside the motor. Otherwise I would ask and would probably do a 70mm or something. I don't want to have to do head studs. At least for now anyway.
