My speedometer on my truck is moving choppily all of the sudden. Its not sticking, its just not moving smoothly. Its not a big deal, just aggravating. I remember reading on here it could be a stepper motor but I thought that was only if it was sticking. Is this a sign my stepper motor is failing?

My truck also seems to do this occasionally.

Yes, your stepper motor is going. My 04 gasser was stepping up on acel, but flowing down on decel. Check with your dealer. They raised their mileage that this could be done to 94000 and failed to inform people like us. I would have never known if I didnt stop in. Also, there is a class action lawsuit going on with it now.

Dont really know anything much about the lawsuit. My mom and dad received the letter in the mail and were telling my about it. I think its one of them wait and see things....Concerning the mileage, my dealer told me 94000, but they were not sending recall notices out. My guess is GM didnt want to admit their mistake. I think there shouldnt be a mileage cap. Plus, I have heard some stories about replaced stepper motors going bad. Wft do we do then? BS if you ask me.

Call your dealer. They are fixing them now. I think the mileage limit is around 80something. If they give you crap pm me and I will dig out the mail notice I got from them.

Dang, I appreciate it but I am way over 80k, closer to 140k. Anyone know how much the part costs?

I think around $500 if you have to do it yourself. There was some talk about someone on ebay that will do it for $100. Try searching, I know I saw some stuff about it.

I was doing maybe 90 passing everyone when my speedometer was saying 60. I was thinking I should speed up when I figured out it might not be reading right. (Just got the truck). According to the website for the class action lawsuit (http://www.speedometersettlement.com/) they might have reached an agreement the phone # is (866)514-0405. I've heard it takes the replacement to 80000 from 70000 and you might have to pay for labor if over 70000 but there are no exact details published. You can file a greivance with Uncle Sam at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/index.cfm. If you can solder on a pc board. Look up speedometer repair in this same forum and you will be pleasently suprised.
Luckily I never had to expain the speeding (or just hope the cop that stops you has a GM as well).
