I went to the local GMC dealer for the clunking steering noise, the service consultant told me that the lube kit was the fix. I know in my other truck they lubed it for a temporary fix and ordered a new shaft.

She stated that GM considers the lube kit to be the fix. Any thoughts...or am I getting the shaft instead.

No, its not the fix, it is a temp fix till your steering shaft comes in.

That was also my understanding...so I called my dealer that I bought my last truck from and he took my VIN and ordered me the shaft. This other GMC dealer has seen the last of me. It was pathetic the way they treated me.-:t

They are behind on the latest (about 2-3 month old) bulletins.
