First time posting to site as this is the first time I've had any issues with my 2003 Duramax. I went completely through the truck last Sunday morning and changed all the fluids and filters on engine and transmission. Fill up and drove around 150 miles and parked truck for six hours. Started right up and drove another 200 miles and parked truck for last 4 days. Got in this morning and won't start. Truck will just crank over like getting no fuel. Checked to see if there as air in the system and had fuel at the check port at the fuel filter. Cranked motor over with plug still out of check port and nothing. Does this mean one of fuel pumps is out? Is there possibly water in the diesel? Truck has just over 43,000 miles on it. I have changed filters and fluids ever 10,000 miles. This is my first diesel truck and any help would be greaty appreciated.

Couple things - it's much easier to troubleshoot for you if you state where you live (weather) and if you have any mods on your truck. From your username I'd say you live in a warmer climate so fuel gelling is not a factor.

IIRC the fuel system is a suction type system, so opening the bleeder screw on the fuel filter when cranking it over will only ingest air into the system. Sounds to me like you lost fuel prime when it sat (possibly from a poor seal at the fuel filter). Open the bleeder screw a few times and pump the primer pump on the fuel filter until fuel comes out. Close the bleeder screw and try to start. If no luck, do it again. It may take a few times. You said you changed all the filters. If the fuel filter was one that was changed, I'd make sure it isn't too loose and that the gasket seated right when installed (both gaskets).

Also bad batteries may cause a no start situation if the motor is not turning over quick enough to create enough combustion for the diesel fuel, but I doubt that's your problem.

I'm from Las Vegas, Nevada. My truck is bone stock with the exception of a leveling kit and 285's. I've already double checked the filter and I don't think that it was a poor seal. I repeated the process of opening the bleeder screw, pumping until I got fuel, and cranking the truck over about a dozen times and never even got a attempt at firing up. I also never got much air out of the bleeder while doing this. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

peekok,

No security light blinking while cranking over. As far as I can tell nothing irregular shows up on dash while cranking. Thanks for the reply.

After you loosen the bleed screw and pump the primer plunger until you have fuel and then retighten the bleed screw, try pumping the primer plunger a few more times until you feel a good amount of resistence from the plunger, then try to restart. You may have to do it a few more times since you sucked in a lot of air by trying to start with the bleeder screw open the first few times you did it .

Also since you may of tried to start it many times by now your batteries may be getting low and might need to be recharged to full voltage to help get the engine fired again.

Or it may be a coincidence and your truck may have another problem that needs a dealer to look at.

Good Luck

Sounds like loss of fuel rail pressure. Probably caused by bad injectors.
