Hey Guys,

I've search the internet and DP but can not find any information for finding the date of manufacture of an Optima battery. I've found this information for other battery manufacturers but not Optima. I’ve looked over the physical battery but can not seem to find any reference to the date.

Back in February I purchased 2 new yellow tops (D34/78) for my truck and I believe one of them is defective. Unfortunately I am unable to find my original receipt so looking over Optima’s warranty they will cover a free replacement from 1 year of the date of manufacture without the original receipt or will offer a pro-rated replacement after that. I’d like to find out how to find the date of manufacture before I speak with the local auto parts store that I bought them from so I have all the necessary information, instead of them telling me what the date of manufacture is.

My issue is that my truck will not start after it sits for a week or two; today was the second time that the truck would not start. I had to charge one of them for an hour or so to get it to crank over. I expect much better performance out of a 7 month old optima, especially for the price we pay for them.

Thanks!

Most parts stores I have dealt with can reproduce the receipt, and will warranty the battery if it tests bad.

Anyone have a favorite battery, other than optima? Mine are on the way out. When I start it in the morning, it draws power down to the point that the clock in the radio resets. It doesn't do it the rest of the day. Just after the truck sits over night. One of my batteries is already testing bad.

After many hard starts in the cold mornings and seeing white smoke after a cold start-up I decided to get my batteries tested. Turns out that 1 of them was bad. The shop that I purchased them through no longer carries the Optima's so I swapped it out for an Exide Ortibal 34XCD. After reading here on DP that batteries should not be mixed the shop also swapped out my 2nd Optima for another Ortibal. They swapped both batteries without having the receipt either. I gave the lady my phone number and she pulled up my purchase history.

In speaking with the guy that did the warranty work he mentioned that the majority of the Optima's they sold were returned near the 1 year old mark. This was what helped me get the good optima replaced after telling them I would not be putting 2 different batteries in my truck. He wasn't sure if they stopped selling the Optima's because of all the warranty claims but he mentioned it was probably a contributing factor.

I now have 2 brand new Exide Orbital's with a better warranty then the Optima's. :ro) I will not be purchasing another Optima again.
