I have the hot start no start problem. I'm saving for a pump but have read that if the starter or battery cables are bad the engine is not turning over fast enough to start. Is there any way to tell if the starter is bad with out replacing it? The truck always starts right up when cold. When hot I can get it to start by draining water on the IP. The pump has about 65K on it.

are you actually draining water? If it's fuel and not water, then check the hoses for cracks-you may have a hairline crack allowing air into the system while shut off. It seems this would be true for hot or cold though-so it may not be the problem. You should be able to audibly tell if it's turning over quickly enough.

If you are pouring water over the IP and then it starts, you probably need to replace the PDM and mount it out of the engine bay.

Well I can try that. I need to get the PMD off the pump anyway. The truck never stalls. I'm thinking it is the pump but if I could get by with just a starter I would. It has fixed the problem before.
