I just turned 5K on my truck so I'm changing the spin on filter on my Allison this weekend. When should I change my transfer case fluid for the first time?

Have you gotten a bit of 4x4 time? I changed mine midway through plow season with about 5-10k on it(cant remember exactly) running mobil 1 synthetic.

I have spent some time in 4 wheel drive, but probably not more than a few hundred miles.

Anyone know what size that drain plug is supposed to be for the transfer case? Every size I tried seemed to be a little loose and I did not want to round off the head on the plug. Thanks.

im gonna drop my pan in order to install a sensor for my tranny temp gauge. so im obviously gonna change the fluid too. im currently running mobil 1 synthetic and plan to continue using it. question is this, how hard is it, and is it a good idea, to change the internal tranny filter while I have the pan off?
gracias

Very easy to change the sump filter. Make sure you have the little rubber orange o ring deal outa the trans though!!! Also when you pop out the filter it will puke more ATF out. Mobil 1 rocks! You got a stock gauge and I believe its pretty accurate and it takes its reading in the sump.

If your trans is pretty new I wouldnt changeit. Its speced to be changed at time of overhaul. I'm picky and anal so if I were to drop my pan for some reason and i had 50k or more on it I would probably change it anyway. Gasket is reusable though. Dont F that dude up becasue they aint cheap!

I was looking in my manual and it says to use tranny fluid in the transfer case. The automatic transfer case calls for a different fluid. Is that referring to the Autotrak transfer case? I have the push button 4WD, but my old 1/2 ton had the push button with the Auto 4WD button also. Sorry this is not a very coherent thought. My question is what fluid do I use in my transfer case? I have a 2500HD D/A with push button 4WD. If I have to use tranny fluid, has anyone used Transynd in the transfer case?

transynd will work. I run and like mobil 1 atf in my trans and transfer case. You dont have an autotrack its the one that comes in the 1/2 tons like you said with the auto button. You can buy mobil 1 buy the quart locally, get 2 quarts and your good to go. If you have some transynd laying around you can use that no problem

This (http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1784&highlight=auto+trak) thread spells it out pretty clearly.
