Im new on this forum, so I hope that my question that I have ain't stupid. Where is the diesel fuel filter located and how much does it cost? Is it easy to replace and can I get it from a parts store except the dealership?

Welcome. The fuel filter is located in the engine compartment, passenger side, next to the firewall...Looks like a large white oil filter. As far as how to change it go to the "Do it yourself" section of the forum for step by step procedures. Where to buy filters...go to the advertizer's section and check out their websites. We try to support these vendors as they support this forum....kind of a "you scratch my back I scratch yours" type of thing. Also, sometimes when buying filters if you ask for a price break for quantity (6 or more) you can get a much better price, and you have filters on hand should anything go awry.

You'll discover that there are 2 styles of fuel filters still available. From the outside, you will not be able to see any physical differences other than a black stripe. But you will see a difference in price.

From the vendors here on the site, (which are less expensive than the dealer), the new style will be about $30.00 more or less and the old style will be about $20.00 more or less. If you have an LB7, either style will work. The price difference is probably due to manufacturing cost differences. The new style filter is supposed to filter better.

If you go to a NAPA retailer, you can usually get a fuel filter. I don't think the Auto Zones and Advance Auto's are keeping that filter in stock. They just don't move fast enough for the chain stores to shelve them.

If you ask me which one is better, I have no comment on that. For me personally, I have a big Racor pre-filter in-line back by the tank. So, for me, I will shift to the new style when convenient. It's not critical for me to run out and buy the new style filter now when I have an old style filter sitting on the shelve in my garage.
