How is the Sun Coast stage 5 transmision is it worth the money?
Has anyone had any problems with this performance trans?

There are quite a few big horsepower guys running it. The only bad thing I have heard about the Suncoast trans. is that it doesn't play to well with certain tuners(the big VA namely). Holding power is outstanding though, and you get a warranty from Suncoast. You should pm Sdaver, Ratlover, Mackin, N20 Dmax, or BMDmax, about shifting, they all run this trans.

Maybe one or a few of them will chime in.

I run the stage v and love it. The shifts are firm and clean,I even run the Big VA with no odd shifting problems. I'd buy another one without hesitation.

Best investment you can make in the trans market IMO. I am running one in my truck as well (I built it, thats the only difference) and it works perfect. Fussy with some tuners, but thats not a big deal really

What are you doing with it ect???? What tuners, what year truck what do you want to do ect ect

You may be well served with just a transgo and a good converter.......depends how hairy your getting.

Any specifics ask away. I run one and havent blown it up yet.

How does your run with Hot OJ and TTS? That is the set up I'm thinking about down the road.

I would do it again, without a doubt!

Never actaully stacked the 2......since i have the hot OJ just sitting I may try it for grins. Never ran the hot oj on a stage 5. I ran a HJ for maybe 5-8k on my stage 3. My stage 5 and 3 feel similar. The Extreme and the 3 played ok as do the extreme and the level 5. Extreme is a running MF

just installed stage 5,had a little problem at first, but seems to be getting better.with the predator on 120 runs fine, but when i start stacking with my tst it starts bucking between 3/4 shifts, and wont shift until i let off.is this the trans,or the stack not working together.

A familiar situation with a big stack for a Suncoast. :(
I think Kennedy has a remedy this. Others are experimenting with various ways around it.

What's Kennedy's remedy, mines doing the same thing.

I still say the TCM suck's. The adaptive learning stuff is a bunch of BS, when you go easy on the pedal the tranny should shift normal but when you mash your motor the tranny should not be thinking about anything else except snapping off the gear's and holding the torque.

Diesel Dragon I agree, when I get into the throttle my truck shifts :ro). With Juice's stack his feels even better.

Working on that bucking problem myself...

I know I have it greatly improved, but still not 100%

Amen Diesel Dragon. SCIII here. Someone needs to hack the TCM.

Add a device that tells the TCM what to do.........

ATS markets it...........( CO-PILOT )..........;)

It has been rumored to clean up the shifts on those stacks........:D

Or..... just order an XTREME and be done with it..............

It's not a bad idea to get a Co-Pilot, I am actually thinking of getting one myself.............

I've been thinking about a Co-pilot too, but at $1,000 or so it's not cheap.

Plus from what I've read here, it too will be asimilated by the TCM and not work that well, unless you leave it off all the time and only turn it on when you want to mash your motor.

I just want a simple 250 hp program that works well for smokin the ricer's when need be :driver: , for normal every day driving :driver: , and some plowing too :driver: , and a tranny that will shift when it's time too and do it correctly. SOMEONE :grd: and I'll be your new best friend  :Handshake

Is that too much to ask for? :thankyou2

Extreme will fit what you ask or has for me.

Edit: whats your gripe with your SC stage 3?

Diesel Dragon

No gripe with the Suncoast just in the electronic end of it with the TCM or ECM. Don't know which is causing the poor 1/4 mile style performance. Seem's once truck start's shifting through gears with pedal mashed the engine will bounce off rev limiter instead of shifting or it will take a second or two to shift instead of just grabbing the next gear and going.

In 4th or 5th gear on highway if I mash it it goes very well, just not from a dead stop up to 5th gear all at once.

I'm just waiting for the Steve's PL3 to come out so I can get a real program in there and hopefully that will cure the problem.

Bouncing off the REV limiter............running a VA I see......what version.......

Get an XTreme and you'll see some better shifts and 1/4 mile times as well

Ratlover,

Why did you switch from a level 3 to level 5?

Not sure on the version of the VA but it's been upgraded a couple of times.

I was going to get the extreme but with the new PL3 coming out soon (hopefully) I think I'll wait for that instead, and see how that does.

I'll just keep it on the 150hp setting for now I guess. :(

cdhd, I think it had some 'issues' if I remember correctly...

ratlover
03-07-2005, 09:56 AM
"issues" = spit some converter bolts out, toasted a flywheel and wasted the front of my converter, blew up some other stuff inside that I found at the same time while the trans was out but that wasnt atributable to the SC......I think i spent close to the same $$$ in beer with the binge drinking that whole debacle sent me to as the new trans and converter cost.

Oh yeah......did I mention I also hate UPS now:mad:

Oh a bitter bitter subject:mad:

Joe hacked my converter apart and said the 3 disk lining was in great shape, clutches in the trans were fine. Mobil 1 ATF ROCKS!!!!
