Well I did a search on 4 truck sites looking for anyone who has done this swap and only 1 guy had, but the instruction link is not working (2 years old).

My '01 came with the stock non-telescoping mirrors that are electric adjustable for viewing only. They are not heated and don't have the turn signals in them.

I bought a set of '05 OEM Camper type extending electric mirrors with turn signals, electric telescoping power and heated.

My '01 does not have the computer programing requirement like '03 and up. I should only have to add a rocker type switch to power the telescoping motor and hook up the regular wiring for the visual adjustment of the mirror. I don't need the heating hookup and if I could get the turn signals to work that would be icing on the cake.

I have installed the '05 mirors on the truck and they fit great just like the stock '01. The good news is I can easily adjust the mirrors manually up, down and around. I can also extend them and compress them, so they are functional manually, just more convienent if I can hook up these wires! The plugs don't mate up and I didn't expect them to.

So the question is does anyone know on the '01 what color wire does what coming off the standard mirror adjustment switch or the plug end? On the '05 what color wire does what on that mirror. The idea is to match functions of '01 wires to functions of '05 wires so I can splice them all together and get the mirrors to move around for visual adjustment.

I will add in separate wires and a rocker switch to make the mirrors telescope in and out and If I get ambitious, I should be able to hook up the turn signals from the mirrors to the fuse box. My basic issue is to get the mirrors to visually adjust from the switch on my armrest. I don't even have to have the power to make them extend or compress as I can do that manually at the beginning and end of each trip.

Before you say it, those TTT mirrors everyone raves about may be OK, but I just don't like the looks, sorry, it's just me, I still don't like the front end on the '03 and up LOL and that's why I still have my '01 ha ha ha

There'a guy on Ebay that is selling those truck service manuals that come on 8 CD's for $28 bucks. Anyone have that set? How through is it when it comes to wiring? I would buy a set of those CD's if I thought they would get down to specific wiring detail like color of the wires for each function.

So anyone have an idea which wire does what coming off the '01 mirror wiring plug for the stock mirrors and same question for the '05 which has an extra plug and about 4-5 extra wires compared to my '01 plug?

Appreciate any info......

Ideally, I would buy the '05 male plug and the '01 female plug and wire them up accordingly as a bridge between each stock plug. This would also leave my stock wires intact so I could switch the mirrors back and forth in 10 minutes if I wanted to do that say at the start of each summer towing season.

OK Got 'er Done!

Cool, very cool! Now my '01 has these big honking '05 tow mirrors. Got the swivel buttons all working so I can adjust the mirrors from my stock '01 controls, added the turn signals using the TTT instructions and decided after talking to MAXROCK that since the TTT mirrors are manually extended, I didn't need to hook up the power extenders, just take 5 sec to pull them all the way out before I start my tow trip and push them back in when not towing. Can't get any simplier than that. Didn't need to hook up the heaters here in California so I'am DONE! Happy Camper once again!

I'll get a picture of the new mirrors and post it later. I have to get used to these big mirrors, feels like they are really sticking out there when I pass someone.

They look OK to me, some of you have said you hate them, guess I'll find out in a couple of weeks when I go up to Seattle to haul my car trailer back down for the summer. One thing for sure, much better than stock with those CIPO slip on mirrors and maybe I can get through Oregon this year without getting a ticket for "improper mirrors". Those dang CIPO's cost me $138 bucks in a fat ticket from OSP (Oregon State Patrol).

Thanks WASKIER and MaxRock.
