I am strongly considering a Bully Dog Power Pup or Quadzilla for my truck. I have a exhaust and set of gauges so far and want the programmer for the obvious power and to correct for my 285's on my truck. Who has towed with the Pup and or 'Zilla and what power level do you tow with? What is the best level to tow at to prevent and/or avoid "limping" the tranny with the programmers? What kind of EGT's have you been seeing?

I've had my powerpup for only a couple of months, but I haven't used it above the 40 hp tune yet. (Too icy here) Anyway, I have towed a 4 place snowmachine trailer (open) with 4 machines on it. I did pretty good with that. Of course that trailer and 4 snowmachines didn't weigh too much. BTW I have the stock exhaust and 285 on mine.

I guess I'm just worried about the EGT's and stuff. I know Bully Dog claims to have the lowest temps and what not so I was just wanting to see if that were true or not. So towing on the 90hp setting is no big deal with a good exhuast and watching the gauges?

I have towed about 2500 miles with the pup on 3, or 90 hp. Been told that it wont get to hot on the EGT from guys that have guages. They said dont bother getting a guage. So far so good.

I would highly recomend gauges....very cheap insurance on an expensive motor!

With towing on level 1 40 HP tune with that same trailer I saw 1150-1250 EGTs. Now this is with my TST Powermax monitor. I wasn't running any tune on the TST. Pyro probe is in the exhaust manifold just like the instructions on the site. The TST was in the truck when I bought it. BTW that was an approximate 6% grade driving @ about 60 MPH. I would recommend having an EGT guage though.

Cool, and that is with the stock exhaust? Not too bad I guess. Mine should be lower with a 4". How does the Pup compare to a Quadzilla? I have heard and read that they are pretty much the same? If so I can pretty much get either one at a reasonable price so I am in a quandry as to what to get.

I have towed with Quad, Edge and Bully Dog at different times, but I was only pulling loads of 6200Lbs and once 7000 lbs. Most of this is in Texas. Not like going up a big mountain climb. I have had no problems with and that is with 100 hp levels +. With these loads I can go up short hills and pass cars if necessary with no problems. I have seen EGTs get up to as high as 1285° or so but would imediately come back down. That was "testing" up one of the steeper hills in Texas.
More heavy loads and in the real mountains might be a different story.
The thing about pulling is to use the extra power sparingly, for short distances. It works fine. Get around a vehicle as you see fit and then let off to normal.

I tow in the 90hp tune and have never had any signifigant heat issues. I also tow weights in the 30-40K range.

I just keep a mindful eye on my pyro when I hit the big hills.

Hey Don,

The DMAX is treating me pretty dang well. Give me a call sometime, I've got a fun little Cummins project ahead of me and wouldn't mind picking your brain a little. Also, I need to talk to you about some other Cummins stuff (P7100, Injectors, etc.)
