I got a letter from GM sometime last year about needing these replaced. Never got a letter from my dealer or anything like the letter said i would get. Should I just go to my dealer and get these replaced?

Two injuries here in the Northwest. Two law officers, sittting on the tailgate, setting out cones for a defensive driving course, while the truck was moving. Cable(s) broke sending them to the pavement. Severe head injuries to one of the officers. I'd get them replaced if you trust your tailgate for anything but it's looks. Fred
