: 20" wheel question-comments
goin' pullin' 03-02-2005, 10:14 PM I'm looking into buying a set of 20's for my 2005 2500HD. Looking for opinions and comments on the upgrade, fitment, and maybee some peoples experiences. I use the truck to tow my pulling truck with a gooseneck trailer and other than that it sits in the garage other than a little street life on weekends.
Rims- Weld evo Velocity 8's in chrome- 20x9.5 with 6.12 backspacing, and 3200lb. load rating for pulling the gooseneck trailer.
Tires-Toyo Open Country a/t all-terrain-305x55x20- these tires are a 10 ply and have a 3195 lb. load rating for goosenecking as well.
I am looking for any and all opinions on if this setup will work and pros and cons of towing with this setup.
The paint is another concern and that is why I was thinking the major backspacing, from the research I did it seems a few people are running 6" of backspacing on 18's so I figured this would work out about the same.
Thanks in advance,
Matthew
lbz492 03-02-2005, 10:48 PM i have those same rims but with the 4.5" backspacing. i like mine but i was planning on doing a lift in the future and the bigger backspacing won't work. i coulden't think of any reason why it wouldn't work.
lbz492 03-02-2005, 10:49 PM i also tow a gooseneck and other trailers
Slick 03-03-2005, 09:42 AM The only thing I would say is that those rims are kinda like BFG AT tires, a lot of people have them. That probably says something for those rims. If there isn't anyone in your area with them I say go for it. If there are quite of few sets of them running around where you live I say go for something more unique.
Those usually do look pretty sweet on the 03 and up body style though.
dwrat 03-03-2005, 10:55 AM Only thing is to get the 305 X 55 X 20 tires to fit and not rub-a-dub-dub you will need to do quit a bit of trimming on the front end. It can be done,I did it and would do it all again, but it took some time and a bit of trimming. If you go with 305-50-20 they will be shorter and may fit better. ...http://img204.exs.cx:81/img204/4577/copyofdura154fb.jpg
Frank_EP 03-03-2005, 02:51 PM If you want to pull heavy, get the Rickson wheels.
Wheels -- Rickson Eliminators: 4500 lb DOT approved rim
Tires -- Toyo 245 19.5 H-rated at 4150 lbs.
The tires/wheels you mentions have _less_ capacity than the
SRW 3500 truck. Yeah, the look is nice, but...

Bodysurfer 03-03-2005, 03:31 PM Oh, so you like the BIG rim, small profile tire look.....sorry !
crewcab03 03-03-2005, 06:27 PM you can also get the www.brentzwheels.com for a single wheel ap in a 19.5"s now. this is for the ford and chevy and dodge guys. those velocitys are a sharp looking wheel as well.
goin' pullin' 03-03-2005, 08:01 PM Thanks for all the comments guys.
lbz492-are your rims chrome and if so how do you like the finish, how hard are they to keep clean, and how happy are you with the rim in general. Have you noticed any effect on braking, ride while towing, and just regular driving?
Slick- this tire and wheel combo is pretty salty, I can't see anybody running this combo in the near future, exspecially around here (IN). Good point though, there are several of them rims around dieselplace in the Eagle Alloys. Where in Indiana are you?
dwrat-i'm already running a big rim and tire combo, see my sig. Your truck looks good and I requested a pic. a while back and it appears that your rims don't have the backspacing that I am looking for to keep the paint from chipping. Also the big backspacing will help it fit much better with the 33's. On another note I have spaced the bumper out 3/4 of an inch, raised torsion bars, trimmed lower valance before paint, and tied back the inner fenders. Thanks for the pic. and again good point.
Frank EP- I don't think I will be towing anything that big to go with that setup. The combo I have choosen exceeds the factory specs. so I think I will be okay. Thanks for the info.
Bodysurfer- being from the state that kinda started this craze I think your mad you purchased your 16's to soon. j/j- sweet looking ride, gotta love the Weld Velocity 8's.
crewcab03- thanks for the info but as stated above I don't think I want to go to that extreme.
Thanks again for all the comments and please keep them coming,
Matthew

ssduramax 03-11-2005, 04:33 PM dwrat,
what is the actual hight of those tires in your setup? and do you have a lift on there? Looks awsome.
I am not into the lowprofile tires, kind of like the meaty ones:D .
goin' pullin' 03-16-2005, 09:42 PM Any other opinions. Plannning on ordering very soon.
