: How common is this kind of crap?
mannytranny 03-02-2005, 09:39 PM Took the truck into the dealership for knock in steering, and tailgate cable recall.
Mileage in, 25,984
Mileage out, 25,984......but not according to the speedo. It reads 25993 .
WTF?
9 frickin miles to test the steering shaft replacement?
On top of it, I get in and they apparently drove it enough to change the radio station.........
I am pissed. But I didnt even notice it until I was out of the dealership by about 2 blocks.
Im sure they took real good care of it while I wasnt watching. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/censored.gif
cdhd2001 03-02-2005, 09:48 PM On my previous truck one of the warranty items was rattle/squeak in the dash and headliner. Invoice said they couldn't find it. I get the brought up front and the radio is blaring and ac blower is on 5. No Censored wonder they couldn't find the noise.
TenXby7 03-02-2005, 09:54 PM In another age in time, I had a brand new Toyota 4Runner. Took it to the dealer for service. Got it back with a freshly extinguished cigarette butt in the brand new never used ashtray. New car smell gone, replaced with cigarette smoke smell. I don't even smoke! WTF!!! I complained to the service manager. His response...I don't know which mechanic could have done it, sorry. Forget about the "test drive" miles around the block. Needless to say I don't even drive past this dealership anymore. It would just raise my blood pressure.
Cobra#3747 03-02-2005, 10:01 PM The mileage in/out could have just been entered wrong.
Radio station change, I find that if the radio ever gets changed at our dealer, its the 8.00 dollar a hour porter.
mannytranny 03-02-2005, 10:35 PM I know exactly what the mileage was in, and I know exactly what it was when I left. At absolute most, I am a mile off.
Just as a note to everyone, it would be prudent to explicitly state that the vehicle is not to be driven off the lot unless you are in it.
I know that is what I will do for sure next time.
The good news is that they couldnt have done much, the dealership is in the middle of town. Pretty good traffic mess all around.
Pure Diesel 03-02-2005, 10:47 PM I had my work truck in last week for a problem and an oil change. They had it for three days and of course they couldn't duplicate the problem. They left the drivers side window down and we had cloud burst that day. Needless to say the drivers side seat was soaking wet. I jump into the truck and start it up, total of about 6 seconds went by and my pants were soaking wet. We won't go any further on how pissed I wasCensored Censored Censored . I don't care if it is a work truck or not you don't leave the windows down in the rainy season. Duh.
mannytranny 03-02-2005, 10:55 PM Honestly, I am suprised.
This is all real common sense stuff.
I just wish I had seen the odo before I pulled out. By then it was too late............
dmaxalliTech 03-03-2005, 12:11 AM I agree with Cobra, the radio station is likely the porter or car hop. I see that every dealer I have worked at. As for the mileage, its hard to say, that does seem like a lot, but in defense of the tech, he does technically have to verify the condition exists and it may be more or less noticable depending on temp, and after he diagnosis the condition and repairs, its his job to verify its fixed. Would you be more pissed that your truck has 9 more miles on it and the noise is gone, or has no miles on it and the noise is still there?
mannytranny 03-03-2005, 12:26 AM Would you be more pissed that your truck has 9 more miles on it and the noise is gone, or has no miles on it and the noise is still there?
Well, this is fix #2.......they replaced the shaft, not just a regrease......
I would have liked to have been notified that tech so and so wants to test drive. Now I dont know who the hell took it out, or what they did to it.
Being a 6 speed, I think its gets some extra attention. At least thats the way it was last time I took it in.
It would have taken at least 20 minutes to get 8 miles on it from their location.
I guess I just always have a picture of some perps having a "detruction period" with my truck. Who knows................
dmaxalliTech 03-03-2005, 12:30 AM When you sign the repair order, you auth the dealer and its employee's to drive the vehicle in a manner to attempt to repair the conditions noted... Or something like that. I do agree though, thats along ways in heavy traffic...
I dunno what could be done at this point, I guess make it a point to let them know your watching the mileage on it when you bring it back...
mannytranny 03-03-2005, 12:32 AM Ya, not worth the trip over there. No damage done........
I did not know that I signed for that.
Just a lesson for next time.
My mother in law took her Furd to a private mechanic ONCE, and got it back with over 400 miles put on. Now she pays the extra, and takes it to the Furd dealer.
Max Payne 03-03-2005, 10:18 AM Yep, our dealership policy is 6 miles on any complaint/repair that can happen while driving. Not really neccessary on an LOF, wiper blades, etc. It really does help overall. I can't tell how many times I have upsold/noted additional problems that I found on my road test, and would not have found otherwise. You would be suprised how many people think they are driving the perfect vehicle, UNTIL a good tech takes it for a spin. But, I do agree, 9 miles is alot for a steering shaft.
dieselfumes57 03-03-2005, 10:29 AM Who cares if its fixed....Maybe he should've given it back broke then. At least he drove it enought to know it was fixed and you would be happy.
Bill Gisse 03-03-2005, 10:34 AM Jeez, the poor mechanic had to have something nice to drive on lunch break.
ratlover 03-03-2005, 11:18 AM I'm pretty sure the last tech that worked on my truck flooged the hell outa it:mad: ;) ):h
And I swear those tires were at full tread when i took it in:Moon:
Cobra#3747 03-03-2005, 11:29 AM I agree also that 9 miles is high, out test drive loop is 4 miles. At least you know the steering shaft shouldnt fall off, if it didnt fall off on them.
dmaxalliTech 03-03-2005, 11:32 AM We have two test drive loops here, one is about a half mile and the other is nearly 4 miles, of course if we have to go highway speeds, its 9 miles of driving just to get to and from the highway.
Phil, your truck was babied....I personally seen to it....
DCatDaddy 03-03-2005, 11:33 AM Oh Yeah,
They will go to lunch in your truck , stop by their girlfriends house, ect.
The good thing is they are insured. I don't like it either !:D
BK Tool 03-03-2005, 11:37 AM Oh Yeah,
They will go to lunch in your truck , stop by their girlfriends house, ect.
The good thing is they are insured. I don't like it either !:DAs long as it don't come back sticky-:t
Hey you drove my truck to your girlfriend's maybe I can drive your... oh nevermindCensored
Burner 03-03-2005, 11:56 AM Manny....... did they fix it? Let's say that thier "loop" is 4 miles, just like Erics. The first drive was to know the rattle, 4 miles. After they replaced the part they drove the loop again, that's 4 more miles. Why complain? Hey, it's 10 miles in a used stock truck......they don't care, just fix it and get paid. How many trucks do you think they drive a year? They are getting cheated by the hour, so why waste time in someone's truck?
....... just think about it.
ratlover 03-03-2005, 12:10 PM Babied my ass:rolleyes: Maybe treated the same as I treat her. I remember a call......"the switch setting for kill is all the way to the left right?" ):h
Like I told ya when I droped it off "I expect you to drive it like I do, let her warm up and then give her hell, you cant thrash her any harder than I do. " :grd: I'd be worried about ya if you were able to resit the urge to get on it after an invite like that.
GMCSID 03-03-2005, 12:16 PM I also have a 4-5 mile loop that I take all vehicles that require a test drive on. I will move the seat forward or back if I can't fit and turn off the radio and a/c or heater. I will try to leave everything as I found it though and I won't mess with your stuff. I have seen other people (lube and detail guys) listening to the customer's radio while working. I don't think that's right.
On test drives I think it's best to not have the customer with me. Some people wouldn't like how their vehicle has to be operated to check the condition of the transmission or brake systems.:driver:
Cobra#3747 03-03-2005, 02:50 PM :funnypost What ever you do, never let the customer drive, they will take you on a 15-20 mile ride to hit one bump for a rattle...
towin43 03-03-2005, 03:07 PM I don't mind how many miles the techs drive my truck to diagnose a problem as long as it is reasonable. I do mind when one of the service desk dudes that checks your truck in takes his girlfriend to lunch in my truck. I know this happened once becuase I was in my wife's car during lunch and followed my truck back to the dealership from Wendy's. Nothing like seeing a couple of kids eating burgers/fries and sipping Biggie Cokes in your brand new truck!
Cobra#3747 03-03-2005, 04:38 PM I agree, doing personal business in a customer vehicle is bs. One guy here takes something to pick up breakfast every morning, no matter how many times you tell him, dosnt stop. Managment makes empty threats as always. Anytime the rest of us do something like that, we are taking one of the Demos or a used car inspection.
WOJO 1 03-03-2005, 05:19 PM I had one of my previous trucks in for service and when I went to pick it up there was a box in the back from an auto parts store. I guess on the test drive they felt it was necessary to pick up parts wihile they were at it. It is BS when this type of stuff happens.
luvthesmellofdiesel 03-03-2005, 08:25 PM I had the same problem with mine in the shop a couple years ago, came back to pick it up, had something like 60 miles on it. I was mad as he11 about it. They eventually said that it was used for a "parts run" to another dealership! More likely the truth is somebody and their buds all took it to lunch and joyride. Even a parts run is unacceptable, they have company vehicles for that, and not mine. Everytime I have to go into the dealership now, I point out the mileage on the odometer and tell them flat out, do not drive the truck off the lot unless you call me and talk with me first. And when I pick up the truck, I check it of course. I wrote it on the work order last time too, they weren't pleased, tough. So what happens when the drive it down the road, get into a wreck with it?
Tim
mannytranny 03-03-2005, 09:39 PM I just cannot see how it would ever take 8 miles to test out a steering rattle.
Takes me about 100 feet. Could have been done in the parking lot.
Burner 03-03-2005, 09:43 PM If the loop is 8 miles ......it's 8 miles. When you get in a pattern well, you get in a pattern. Of course they 'might' just pick up on something else while they are driving.
the4js 03-04-2005, 08:15 PM Im experiencing the same rattle or clunking. it only happes when I pull into a driveway when its off camber. Did they fix your problem?
