This question has no doubt been asked before, and I bet many of you have answered it before, but I am doing my research and I am going to tailor any "asked" questions to what I do.

So, how is it having to commute with your dually? For those of you that do it, do you have anything that should be said in the way of advice of what to make sure I check, do, or not do?

Or for those of you that have a dually that have tried to commute with it but dont for any reason at all (besides the fact that its cheaper to use your little Jetta or Escort or whatever) please tell me why you'd rather not commute with it.

For obvious reasons, I don't use the Dually as much as I used to before deisel went through the roof, instead using my half ton six cylinder. Other than that it's really not that bad...just park further "out" and be careful while manuvering the beast.

I have a Dodge Cummins 3500 as well as the Dura. I still commute some with the Dually. I don't mind. just remember the fenders............bank drive thru, park in larger spots.
One think I have to remember is to fill up on diesel, because, the nearest diesel fuel pump from work is almost 30 miles away. SO i leave the house in the AM, I need to have at least 50 miles of diesel to get me to work and back to the diesel pump.
Other than drive thrus, parking, fuel Im not sure there is anything to worry about.
I guess I do get tired of shifting gears(dodge is a 5 spd).

Used to drive it every day,
Bought a Harley and cut down my fuel bill down a bit.
Just watch the rear fenders and tires on the dually. All else is easy!

I drive mine everyday to my downtown office.. Approximately 120 km roundtrip each day... I also make a lot of site visits to check on my projects. Just watch your width as everybody has said.

Downtown is particularly interesting - since city planners seem to design roads for Geo Metros - not trucks...

PS: I'm reimbursed for fuel costs - so diesel prices don't really upset me much... :D I average 1 tank every 2-3 days (approx $170CAN / fill)The added mileage on my dually bugs me a little - but I bought 'er to drive - so what the hell!:ro)

I work out of the house, but when I need to run errands with my daughter, I am to lazy to switch out baby seats to my other truck, so we happily motor with the dually. I have been through drive-thru banks and fast food restaurants with no problems.

I used to drive my dually every day for work 130mi a day. Once it got cheaper for me to buy another car and pay for high octane gas for it I did that to keep the miles down a little on my truck. As everyone else stated roads and parking spaces can get a little small in some places but remember the fenders and enjoy.:)

i drive mine every day, it was far cheaper to run than my 94 1500 that only got 8mpg

When I bought mine I was driving heavy commercial in a couple old Intertrashionals. After a long day of driving a donkey, the ride home felt like a Cadillac, and the truck actually felt small. It's all in what you're used to.

I take my dually when ever I leave the house. I bought it to drive and it gets pretty good mpg as far as I am concerned. I would rather drive my dually at 17 mpg than a compact car at 25 or 30. Even if I had a compact in the family.

I drive 9.3mi one way to work each day. It's not too bad and this new truck (see signature) hasn't complained other than low mileage, i.e., no DPF messages yet. I only have 1350 miles on this truck so far. Hand calculated mileage was 12.49mpg on my last tank (DIC said 13.3), most certainly due to the 1hr and 35min commute it took to go that 9.3mi the other day (bad accident caused a real mess). The other two times were 13.6mpg each.

The best thing about commuting in these trucks is being able to see over top of everyone else. I can routinely pick up the guys in the little BMWs who think they are Mario Andretti and maneuver to make their lives a little harder. :)

These duallies are obviously not the best commuter vehicle. However, the military loves to move me every few years and I like to have the tools to do most of that move myself. I can't really justify another car just to drive back and forth from work. Bottom line, if you don't need the dually you'd likely be happier all around with a crew cab short bed.

well im a sophomore in college in NY and i have my dually up here at school. its a gasser, and you aughta see peoples faces when i say im happy that i only burned 35 gallons to get from CT to Rochester. Its more practical than my car, a 87 monte carlo ss that gets 9 mpg. The worst part is parking it because the school didnt really anticipate a vehicle thats almost as wide as it is long lol

Been using a dually as a daily driver for over 4 years now. I love this truck. Round trip to work & back is 31 miles. The wife drives the Mitsubishi to and from work everyday, (5 miles one way), and we need the truck to pull sig. 5er. I take the dually anywhere I need to go.

I drive mine everyday for work....no big deal even in parking lots....I just park out a little bit at grocery stores but at the parts places etc I pull right up to the front.
