Just noticed my driver side front wheel wobbling when I hit bumps last night. Jacked it up and everything looks tight at the wheel (Ball Joints, tie-rods). What I did notice is a lot of play in the steering linkages. I am not familiar with the name of these parts, so excuse my ignorance here. It appears to be a lot of movement in the center cross member right under the radaitor area of the truck, where it attaches to a couple of large cast members. Looks like there are bushings in the cast piece that might be worn. How much movement should there be here?

Took it to the local shop here in town that did my u-joints not long ago. They said the pitman and idler arm is worn. $310 to replace. Priced parts at NAPA, DANA brand for $192. Anyone have any thoughts on this. How ugly of a job is this? Is an alignment required after this? Thanks!
