: How hard would it be to strip the truck to the frame
Aron420 03-02-2005, 05:44 PM So how hard would it be to take the truck appart down to the bare frame. I found a place in my city that will powder coat a sand blasted frame for $400 I also want to weld all the holes up for a smooth look. Is there a manuel that i could get to tell me how to put it back together if i run into a problem. And yes i would label everything as it came apart in great detail.
marcdeluca 03-02-2005, 06:18 PM Whenever I have an idea like that, I lie down until it goes away!
jholly 03-02-2005, 11:44 PM I don't know with an idea like that that I think I would get drunk:drinking: and stay drunk until I forgot about the idea. :duh:

jmg343 03-02-2005, 11:49 PM id rather be the white guy in the "this really pisses me off" thread than even entertain this idea.
7997redtail 03-02-2005, 11:50 PM I needed a good laugh. All the more to you for doing a project like this but you got too laugh at the responses.
jmg343 03-02-2005, 11:54 PM just noticed something..."Aron420". Im gonna go out on a limb and assume that this idea struck just after the munchies, sometime around 4:22 say?
dmaxalliTech 03-03-2005, 12:02 AM We get about 40 hours for a frame swap...basically the same thing you wanna do but much easier. Can you say......find a hobby?
Aron420 03-03-2005, 12:22 AM I think you guys are missing the point. I plan on modifing the sh#t out of this truck and keeping it as long as posible. By the time im done ill have $25,000 cnd invested ontop of the purchace price. and i dont feel like driving around in a pimped out truck with a rusty frame because all the wax has cum off. I live in CANADA we salt the sh#t out of every road we have im buying two sets of rims because of this, a cheepo set for winter and the phat 20"s for summer. so thank u to dmaxalliteck for the tid bit of info. As for the rest... I guess you guys just dont love your truck as much as I do cuz Ill do anything for my baby.:ro)
dmaxalliTech 03-03-2005, 12:25 AM Aron, now that your explaining why you would want to do this, it makes sense.
It is indeed alot of work, but if your gonna put that kind of time/money into your ride, then its easier to justify. As for getting a hobby, it sounds like your truck will be it.
As for advice on doing it, a lift would be a huge asset, or at least some way to hoist the body up. The rest can be manhandled or done with a cherry picker. Take lots and lots of pics and lay everything out in 'sections' to ease assembly. The quicker you can get to puttin it back togather the better so its fresh in your mind.
Aron420 03-03-2005, 12:29 AM Oh and jmg343 Aron420 stands for how much power im lookin to get out of my motor...... As for whether that will be flywheel or rear wheel HP when the twins cum out ill let u know. And i do have a hobby My truck my sled 04 Pro X2 800 and my bike04 R1.:ro) Then the farm.;)
dmaxalliteck thank you for the info that is what i wanted to hear but what about an instruction mauel is one avalable.
Chevysrus 03-03-2005, 04:46 PM I think it would be easier if you got another frame, had it smmothed the way you want it then get it powercoated and then just do a quick swap. That way your downtime is minimal, the swap is ongoing process and when you are done sell the stock frame and get some of your money back. I suppose this would hurt the re-sale if the frame serial # don't match and you had to explain why instead of being done to re-build a wreck.
Anyway, sounds like this should be a winter project and now too late to start.
Regards,
Cobra#3747 03-03-2005, 05:01 PM really having the other frame there to swap everything on to would be nice. Not sure how cost effective it is though. Just remember you have to strip down every brake and fuel line, every retainer clip, not bend any of it to put back on the frame. The lift is almost a need, unless you think you and your friends can pick the cab up without damaging it off the frame, along with set it back on the frame. Frame swaps with the new frame sitting next to the old one, have been done here in about 25 hours, but man that guy was hurting after that.
Aron420 03-03-2005, 08:52 PM Another frame?? Thats a good idea. As for a lift, i have a bobcat and a very good amagination as you probable already guessed. I also have a chane hoist and a sturdy shop roof. And as for damaging clips and stuff like that my Dad is a body man and i can get that stuff free or very cheep.
Once again thanks for the input with out you guys there would be alot of clueless diesel owners around.
