GM Manual says - send to authorized repair station.
OR..... check Ebay for a replacement.

is that a manual eject button on that deck?
try putting it in rewind and then hit the eject... screw in a slide hammer and whack whack whack...

No manual eject, unfortunately.:( Best way is to pull the unit from the dash and get it to some old TV guy or some car stereo guru. Have them take the unit apart to get the tape out properly, then reinstall. Then at least, you can use the radio again...:o:
BTW, that location where the tape deck sits is where an aftermarket stereo would install.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=249699

it has manual eject. I dont want to spend a cent on getting it fixed, truck,s body is to far gone for that.
i had hoped there was a little trick to get that stupid tape dislodged.
No big deal, radio plays mostly carbage anyway

Manual eject? Wow, I thought all the '88-up C/K trucks used the auto-reverse player mounted in the center (separate from the radio)... Oh, well.
And you're right, sometimes the only thing good on my radio is the traffic report.
I suggested a guru not for the purpose of shelling money out, but because some of the TV/VCR repairmen of the past would relish the challenge of getting the tape out for you, gratis.

I got one out once by sticking a screw driver down in there and "hitting" something just right. Its been years though..
If it has manual eject, you should be able to take out the cassette and to carefully fumble out the part of the tape that's stuck in it ...

get a small flat screwdriver and "dig around" in there to try and jar loose what ever is stuck, that is if it has the manual eject. Sounds like you don't care if you ruin the tape deck, you just want your radio back so you really can't screw anything up!

man i have been prying with 2 screwdrivers and needle nose pliers to get that stupid thing to come up out of the turntable pins, but it wont budge.
i also have been stabbing with a long thin screwdriver at any thing worth poking at inside and its still stuck. Now i can try a crowbar but i'm afraid that will upset the alinement of the dash somewhat, and my wife is not entirely in favour of that aproach, cause she figgures the interiour does'nt nessecerely has to match the outside look of this rustbucket.
and yes it is a midmount tapedeck with those slide levers at the side to alter the sound, i dont know what to call that thingemedjingy. and it has a eject button that oviously is not to keen:boxing: to co-operate.
Hmm, what if you take the radio out, open it up and see if you can get the tape out then?
