: Air Filters and Intakes effect on EGT?

I've been doing a lot of reading of the different posts on air filter and intake comparisons and have found some great information however, the one factor that never seems to be measured is the effect on EGT's. Can anyone with aftermarket intakes or filters with EGT's give me some feedback on the change in temps from stock to the aftermarket filter or intake?

Funny you mention this. I usually run my stock setup with a gutted box, but I recently put on my other setup using an AFE tube and a K&N cone filter. I noticed the EGT temps while cruising seemed lower, but I'm not 100% sure (I didn't really pay attention to the exact temps beforehand)

Highmark, best to do a search on the forum. ;) There have been numerous discussions regarding any benefit there is in terms of hp/EGT's with using the AFE stage II systems over stock. I think the concensus was there may be a slight advantage, IIRC the guys that race their trucks were achieving the best results. There was an air filter study/test conducted by a lab that validated the efficiency of several air filters.

My personal experience was I had a unifoam filter installed until I read the results of that study. Seems they let a lot of dirt get by.:( When I removed it the surface of the filter was covered with a black film so air flow was severely restricted.

I'm sticking with the OEM setup for now until I see something better. As for EGT reduction most go after the "out-take" side with larger exhaust, removing the CAT, etc. This being said standby for the deluge of guys with stage II systems to jump in! ):h Good luck. JJ :)

I put on my intake and 4 inch exhaust at about the same time so I don't know what just the intake did but I noticed about a 250-300 degree difference when towing and running it hard. I will say this though I put it on this fall as it was getting cooler outside I don't know how much that played into it but I can race people with my juice on 5X5 and my egts rarely go above 950 degrees.

BBDM, which 4" exhaust did you go with? This is my next mod. JJ :)

Sorry I have been away for a few days. I just got a 4 inch downpipe and went and bought the 4 inch pipe and fittings if you notice my signature I have stacks so you kind of have to make your own system. I have no muffler or anything.

I have nothing to add to this thread, other than use the stock air filter. I have 20,000 miles on my original filter (I know I should change it)... anyway, when I was messing with the truck and took of the stock tube, I wiped the inside of it with a clean white cloth, to see if I could collect any dirt... the cloth was completely clean after I wiped it, I couldn't believe it!! I've done the same with my custom 4" intake tube and the same results... if anything, I would stick with the stock paper filter!!!
