: cracked injector nozzles
guy at work had some problems with his 03 dmax set SES code and would not let him over certain rpms, he took it to dealer and they hooked up a scanner and told him he had six bad injectores they had cracked nozzles, they then ordered new injectors and let him have his truck to my knowledge never checked for fuel in the oil , and never pulled out a injector, its my guess they checked his balance rates and six were out of wack, now is where it gets interesting 39000 miles on truck never changed the fuel filter i am thinking that his injectors are fine and the problems will go away once he changes the filter any one else have an opinion he just learned about the horror stories of injector failure and is ready to buy a gasser
wakeboarder 03-02-2005, 07:31 AM Sound like he needs a gasser if he put 39k on a fuel filter.
dmaxalliTech 03-02-2005, 08:45 AM If they guy can tell a nozzle is cracked from looking at a scan tool, he better get out of the dealer, Bosch will be a calling.
Scott C 03-02-2005, 10:29 AM They should not let him continue to drive the truck with the cracked injectors. But, if he hasn't changed the filter yet he wouldn't no better anyways. This type of person will start to bad mouth diesels and say there no good, when it was a lack of understanding on his part. Good luck.

thats what i am thinking another case of a gm tech with little duramax experience, i can not believe they would tell him that then send him on his way, so what do you think eric change the filter and all is well.

Good luck. he is a farmer and has been around diesels just not the common rail high pressure systems its all the research he has done on injecteor failures that has him nervous of owning a dmax long term, i think he did most of his research on the diesel stop and most likely got worst case scenerio
arguy 03-02-2005, 01:23 PM Maybe he will sell it for cheap!!!!
Jomar 03-02-2005, 11:21 PM It`s hard to believe how many D/Max owners I`ve met over the last 3 yrs. that don`t know anything about the fuel filter or when it should be changed.
It`s not unusual at all to hear they have 25K to 35K on the truck and never had the fuel filter changed. I always direct them to the DP to get a education.
PS. on edit, how come this post is much wider than the monitor screen
I now noticed it went back to nomal size when I posted it.:ro)
ShumDit 03-03-2005, 01:20 AM Yeh, amazing. I just got rid of my '83 VW Rabbit (diesel) w/est 350Kmiles and IIRC, I've changed the filter 3 times. Can't seem to recall what the manual said about it ~ it just kept on atickin'. Course the mech injectors and injector pumps were much more foregiving ~ BTW, was down your way last month. Seen a D'max w/a mercedes emblem on the grillbar. Looked way cool.
fredw 03-03-2005, 09:18 AM keep in mind there is guys that change their fuel filters every 3 to 5 k and have injector problems just like the 25k guys, that is not the fix, just a bandaid soultion to the real problem that the injectors from bosch are just bad

When I drove a Mack for a living, we would always run the fuel filters until we noticed a loss of power, then changed them. The Mack had a primary and secondary spin on. We always kept a set in the cab for emergencies. The more a filter is used, the better it filters. Unless the media gets torn or damaged.
Of, course, I always follow GM's rec on the 15K, even though I have a pre OEM Cat.
Didn't the letter that GM issued extending the warranty on the injectors state that there were 2 issues:
1) Injector bodies cracking, and:
2) Fuel particulate and low lubricity wearing-out the injectors?
Now that I've had all of mine replaced with the upgraded injectors I hope that the new design fixed the injector body cracking problem, and that the Nictane combined with a good additive will solve the fuel particulate and lubricity problem.
