The intermediate shaft issue is coveredas long as you are under your warranty. Otherwise it's on you. There are two fixes; the replacement shaft and the lube kit. I pushed for the new shaft on one truck and got it, but on my last fix they would only do the lube kit.

Its covered under GM warranty but the extended warrantys wont touch it. Its been identified as a GM problem so the extendeds bailed but GM wont recall it.

Yeah I know! I have a pretty good rep with my dealership... I grad/high school with the mans son who owns the busn.... I bought 4 vehicles from him...my mom just bought her 3rd vehicle yesterday from him and my grilfriend is about to buy her 1st one today...... If they ever turn me down for service work I would be pissed.... Not really!!! But I am thankful to have a smalltown service dept who cares..... Got pretty lucky!!

I had the steering shaft replaced under warranty but now at 71K it's clicking again.
Doesn't GM covered replaced parts forever?

Yeah right. Their warranty is outta sight! As soon as you are out of sight of the dealership, it's gone. Seriously, though, they will warranty it again if still under warranty. How long has it been since it was last replaced?

It was org. replaced at 35,000 miles now at 71K it's bad again. Shouldn't they replace it again since it was a Recall?

It's not a recall. It's a TSB. 35K is not as bad an some. I replaced one at 15K.

I had mine re-greased sometime under 35,000. It is now back at 75,500. I told the dealer to replace it and he said they couldn't they only could re-grease it. My comments were that this is a TSB, a known issue and grease does not fix anything. His comment was at least I will have history of the problem. We'll see what happens. Unless I decide to do it myself.

You got 40K out of the last grease job which is not bad.

The local dealer replaced mine at 58k and it was not bought from them. N/C warranty.

Might take in in and ask the dealer-- they can always say NO! or YES.

Is there an easy way to grease the connection myself?

my 07 2500 feels very loose up front and you can hear the knocking when i make turns or drive over small bumps. i have already had my front hubs replaced and i told the dealer about the steering knocking and they told me that it wasnt covered under my warranty. i dont know where my paper work for the truck is, but i was thinking about just going to the dealer and have them print out my warranty... they should do that right??
oh ya i am new to this site and im still trying find everything i need. i love my truck and would like to have it forever..
thanks everyone

Lubing the original ISS or installing the updated ISS did not fix any of mine. Replacing the lower column bearing did.

Diagnose it yourself first.....Read the warning in post #2, then follow the link... to post #2 again http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=341500&highlight=column+bearing

I've found that wrapping a single wrap of masking tape around the new or reused bearing, on the outer rim of the insert, prior to reinstallation, solves it FOREVER.
